Buffalo, New York - Delaware District
 

The Delaware District runs along and adjacent to Delaware Avenue, beginning just north of the Allentown neighborhood, and continuing for about 3 km north to Delaware Park. The district is primarily residential, and has been the premier area for wealthy Buffalonians since the early 1800s. 19th Century Mansions line Delaware Avenue, most since repurposed to schools and other uses, while luxury apartment buildings were added in the 20th century. Side streets are filled with fine homes and apartments. The area has been well maintained and occupied since its initial development, and continues to be the premier location of the well-to-do.

Delaware Avenue connects with the Olmsted Parkways at Gates Circle, and lead toward Delaware Park, Elmwood Village, and the West Side neighborhoods.

thanks for the photos. buffalo has always appealed to me in a way...like you could have a great quality of life there with low sprawl, cost of living, traffic, heat...surrounded by lots of water.

You know the title really confused me and recently I just figured it out that you meant Buffalo, New York State. I thought it was Buffalo to New York City road trip.

Sorry for the confusion. In hindsight, I should have altered the titles of the neighborhood series somewhat - "Delaware District, a neighborhood in Buffalo, New York State"

It seemed kind of long, although I could also have added as an intro:

"Buffalo is the 2nd largest city in New York State, about 500 km flying distance from New York City, and adjacent to Lake Erie and the Niagara River on the US border with Canada."

Nice pictures. So is this just a narrow strip around Delaware Avenue? Where does this neighborhood turn into Elmwood Village or whatever is on the eastern side of the neighborhood?

Elmwood Village is primarily the business strip, but also is now considered west to at least Richmond. Delaware District is generally considered bounded by Elmwood, North, Main, Delaware Park, and Forest Lawn. There is an historic district of the same name within the larger area, and a city council district that encompasses part of the area.

It has been a couple of years since I last posted pictures from this neighborhood, so I took the bike out and spent a beautiful Fall afternoon riding around and taking a few pictures.

I have to say, the amount of beautiful homes and beautiful architecture can be overwhelming, and I was only able to capture a small amount here (I also messed up my camera and ruined a couple of dozen images, so maybe in the future I will try are re-take those areas I missed closest to the park).
