It would have been nice to hit some neighborhoods, but it was hot and I was feeling lazy.

An overlooked city if there ever was one. Not many Indy threads on here. Some great architecture there downtown.

Do show more when you get the chance. I like seeing some of the larger cities we don't see much.

Indy looks pretty vibrant, did it feel that way?

Excellent photos! I like Indianapolis; it has become a great place to visit.

In the sixties, much of downtown gave the same impression as photos of Post-WWII East European cities. It was drab, run-down, and dirty, and the great memorial structures and public spaces were tired-looking and unkempt.

There's a great sense of vitality there now, especially in the summer. The Canal and White River State Park, with museums, open greenspace, and a beautiful downtown zoo, attract a lot of visitors, and new state government buildings have followed the concepts of formal, planned layout that already was part of the city's design.

The glassed-in space at the top of the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument on the Circle is an observation deck acessed by a tiny elevator. It provides some interesting overviews of the central downtown.

Indianapolis is quite a vibrant downtown. Well done, LightningShower! ;)

RockMont Jan 27, 2010 4:13 PM

Indy is as fine looking a city, as their football team.

WEMO Jan 27, 2010 6:10 PM

nice...

ShadowMaster Jan 27, 2010 6:17 PM

I was curious to why we don't see Indianapolis around these parts just a few days ago, and then you came and delivered.

Indianapolis has noticeable amount of older gems lining it's streets. Good work!

Maybe we could see some shots of a packed Monument Circle celebrating another Colts championship? Only if we don't see a packed Bourbon Street celebrating hell freezing over! :jester:

Downtown Indy is rather nice. I used to head there every summer from 2001-2004 and would spend a weekend in downtown. I always had a good time. Too bad downtown Columbus can't get its act together to produce a worthwhile destination similar to what Indy's been able to accomplish.

Superb and far too often overlooked.

Added to my list

Great looking city, I love the mixture of old 3-10 storey buildings lining the streets, makes it look substantial.

These are some of your best photos too.

TwasBrillig Jan 28, 2010 2:08 AM

I dig it.
