Calgary is bouncing back

Parts of Alberta were hit with the double whammy of torrential rains combined with rapid snow melt off the Rockies resulting in catastrophic flooding in Canmore, Calgary, and High River and many other towns and cities and First Nations.
This thread isn't only about the flood although I took a few pictures of it.
I feel bad for the thousands of people who have lost everything and apparently flood insurance is not available in Canada. Amazing to see how people pulled together to help the city and area recover. A giant camp is being built in the SE part of the city to house the thousands who have lost everything.
The unhesitating support from Edmonton, Slave Lake, and from across Canada has been gratifying and we are grateful. Even Cambodian orphans raised $900 for Alberta flood relief which is a touching story.

Blackfoot Crossing on the Siksika First Nations. The community was completely flooded and these people have lost their homes and everything in them.

The Bonnybrook sewage treatment plant was overwhelmed by flood waters. Calgary has state of the art sewage treatment (compared to most Canadian cities).

The night of the flood, the power in my building went off about 1 am. It was still off in the morning and the resident manager asked me if I wanted to go have a look from the roof. I wasn't sure how much we would see since we are more than 3 blocks from the Elbow river (on top of a hill). I was just astonished at what I saw.

Because of the flood, the Calgary Stampede grabbed hold of the slogan "come hell or high water", and despite Stampede Park suffering heavy flood damage, the so called "Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth" is going on and tourists are welcome and needed.

Thanks for this photothread, Jimby! Very interesting pictures, of course.

Astonishing views of the flooding. I´m sorry about all the people who have lost everything. My condolences for all of them and my wish to recover from this disaster as soon as possible, I´m sure about that. Come on, Calgary!

Congrats for the pictures and greetings from Madrid, Spain!

calgary is very modern looking. its an easy city to overlook with vancouver and toronto shadowing it, but man, it looks really dense and lively. that cbd kicks ass. its got some high transit ridership too. i want to ollie off that bumpy art installation also!
