Staunton - A Google SketchUp City

This is my second Google Sketchup City, the first one is also called Staunton, but looks very different.

Here is a link to the first Staunton
http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=105381

The first Staunton was never actually finished, the city was not planned very well and had too much fixing to do. So I started fresh, a new Staunton City.

Staunton City is most likely located on the west coast, but will probably look like an east cost city since the city is going to have a New York Skyline look. Staunton's tallest building is the 83 floor high Galviston Enterprises World Headquarters Tower, followed by the 76 Floor Staunton International Building.

Downtown Staunton would either be on an Island or a penisnula of the mainland with a bridge connecting to a large island.

I'm not sure how long this model will last, maybe this model will go into the suburbs, or it would probably just be the downtown area.......

[[I made the textures]] so dont ask if I got them off a website :)

Here are the first shots of the Western Tip of Downtown,

Nice!

Patrick Jun 7, 2006 8:34 AM

Thanks :)

I've added a whole new section to the city consisting of 10 buildings, 6 of them probably above 40 floors. The New Section is called Staunton Square, it will be a Times Square themed area.

The two tallest buildings in the area are the Washington Tower and the Staunton Financial Center.

The Washington Tower is one of the most detailed buildings in the city, with its multiple setbacks. The Washington Tower is modeled by the American International Building in New York (I think I made it look too much like the real one) It is now the third tallest building in the city (if you count the spire)

The Staunton Financial Center is a large modern new glass tower. It is modeled after the Bloomberg Tower also in New York. The Staunton Financial Center is now the 7th tallest in the city.

I also textured two buildings in the main financial district, The art-deco styled 715 Jefferson Avenue, modeled after the 500 5th Avenue in New York and the Sleek Modern Staunton Stock Exchange.

Staunton City is inspired by the Staunton Island in GTA 3, but the the whole city will be called Staunton and Downtown will be on a peninsula instead of and Island.

Here are some urban black and white shots of Downtown Staunton, I've textured 6 new buildings, 4 of those highrises.

:psycho: Nice!!

Patrick Jun 16, 2006 7:08 AM

^Thanks :)

I textured two more buildings, The N Hotels Staunton Square (based on the W Hotel Times Square) and the Millennium Entertainment World Headquarters Tower (based on the Conde Nast Building)

The New Towers still need billboards, so the spaces are empty until I make some more billboards.

I guess its been kinda slow around here :(

I have been working on Staunton Square, I redid One Staunton Square, a building like One Times Square, a building coverd with billboards. I also deleted a Staunton Square building based on the Reuters Building at 3 Times Square in New York.

Here is a picture of the Site....

I want your textures.

Nice Times Square. It looks better than Times Square.

foxmtbr Jun 19, 2006 5:05 AM

I'm working on a Times Square-like plaza in my own city too. Yours is amazing, Patrick. (Woah, that's my name too!)

Anyone have any ideas for brand logos to use for billboards?

Patrick Jun 19, 2006 7:54 AM

Thanks! Making Textures isnt that hard, Its very simple, just draw a part of a building that can pattern on paint then upload it. My Textures arent very complicated.

And foxmtbr (or Patrick :) ) Its also easy and kinda fun to make Billboards. Most of my Billboards have pictures of real cities with some corporate name on it. Here are a few.
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/1818/ghj6tp.jpg

^Those made up corporate names are easy to think of like Jenkin's and Associates or Galviston Enterprises.

And some billboards are just made up stores and companies, that are simpler,
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/1052/ghj9xw.jpg

^Those made up companies are basicly parodies of real company names like Lacy's (Macy's) HITtv (Mtv)

Another thing that helped me was Getty Images, a great stock photo website that has pictures of almost everything, this is where I got my business people pictures and Times Square Billboards.

And Here is the latest shot of Staunton Square.

Oh alright, thanks! I'll try making some of my own right now.

CGII Jun 19, 2006 11:02 PM

That website is AWESOME. Thus far I've been spending the most time making textures in photoshop.
