Detroit CBD and neighborhood sampler
Being a long time lurker, I decided to post a few of my amateur photos.
My interest in buildings began when I took a weekend trip to Chicago. When I returned to Detroit, I began to “discover” the Detroit I had been missing. I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit and only went downtown for the Autorama Hot Rod Car Shows and Greektown. My account on Flickr is subdivided into Detroit Photos, CBD Photos, Woodbridge neighborhood, Indian Village, Brush Park, & Night Photos. In the Travel section, I have several from Michigan campgrounds, a large batch from NYC in 2006. In the Misc. section, I have several shots of old cars in a few junkyards, (rare vehicles), and car show pictures. Here is a few from Detroit: --note to administrator:having difficulty uploading pics;[IMG] not showing picture (used posting guide). http://www.flickr.com/photos/gab482/...7600310049638/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/gab482/...7600309705137/ Thanks for viewing. Much more is on my Flickr account. http://www.flickr.com/photos/gab482/sets/ |

Nice shots, and welcome!
|
Nice set of pics. Detroit certainly has some beautiful old buildings.
|
Now if half the suburbanites going to Eastern Market or a Tigers game would stay and occupy those houses and lofts
|
Detroit is like the aunt that slipped you a bit of gin during the holidays. Sure, it's messed up but it's still alright.
|
Great set. The view from Comercia Park is sweet.

Definitely some good bones in there!

Really great shots! I appreciate the oldies too. I was living in Ann Arbor at the time many of these were taken and regularly making trips to Detroit. Construction of the new 1001 garage, People's outfitting coming down. Livingston House still standing.
I also like the Eastern Market pics, and this one is my favorite: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/170/3...1bd40eca_b.jpg |

I feel bad for the people in the back half of that bus.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3513/...e08816c4_o.jpg |
That's just a little Photoshop laziness on my part.
No busses or passengers were harmed in the construction of this composite photo... |
great set of pictures! the buildings are great. lots of potential there.
|
MAN, just when i thought the thread was over a new set popped up. great detroit pics. love the old buildings. this gave me a good feel for he cbd.
|
This aerials make me excited for the infill potential. New juxtaposed with old. I may be waiting a long time...but it still makes me excited.
|
I have a feeling I'd better shut my mouth, still I can't help but say some of those pictures are annoying. Or let's say painful if you will.
Got a few places on my mind where most of those deserted buildings would certainly be occupied and definitely look great, in my hometown for example :D Let me see : http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1008/...5bcd83d7_b.jpg Please, I'd like the left one in the foreground and the one you can see fully in the background. You guys don't need them anymore ? Fine, just move them over here. :jester: Okay, that's just idiotic kidding, guess they'll be eventually restored somehow. |

Such beauty and decay. I hope the next couple of years are resurgent for Detroit.
I really like this shot Quote:
