CALGARY | Oxford Tower | 262 M / 860 FT | 62 Floors

Another new tallest for Calgary has been proposed. These are the only two renders available at present, but apparently the data is correct according to a reliable source.

Where did the 62 floors and 262m figures come from? Those are new to me.

Silent Bob. He usually doesn't post anything unless it's true to the best of his (usually correct) knowledge. However, it was actually 61 floors, I mistakenly read 62.

Reminds me of a tower proposed for Houston or Dallas circa 1988.

We were all thinking the same about Stantec, except this one actually has solid design flow from bottom to top :P

MasterG Oct 15, 2014 8:25 PM

Nice height and a sleek profile from N-S but otherwise a modern 1980s-style tower. Given the site in the core it would be nice to have pushed a bit higher or included mixed-use as well.

A solid C+ for me. Although 262m is nothing to sneeze at, could have been better in a number of ways.

There low-res renderings certainly doesn't help it; in a few months if they come out with high-quality ones and more angles I bet people will get a different impression.

Ah yes... I hadn't seen that post, and was surprised by the heights and floor count. Who is Silent Bob anyway?

Pretty much anywhere in U.S. in late 70's or 80's. It reminds me of the Embarcadero towers in SF.

A few more images that have shown up. It doesn't look 262m tall in these images.

Yeah that version's definitely not 262m. You can see in the skyline elevation it's shorter than the Bow.

Dale Oct 16, 2014 3:42 AM

Look at EAP in the drawing. Seems like Bow is massively overscaled.

Not exactly the most scientific method, but it does give a general idea. I think unless there have been some changes, this tower will be somewhere around 750'.

^^ I'm confused! 62 stories... I'd say 265-275 meters, so that part almost makes sense. But the sketches just doesn't lead me to believe 870' or whatever! And like the sketch shows, it looks to be 750-770'. You know "Comcast" in Philadelphia is 57 stories and 970'.... so anything is possible I guess.

HomeInMyShoes Oct 16, 2014 2:44 PM

Stories are had to gauge height. End of story. The range is just too big these days.

Given the location, I think it actually works into the skyline quite nicely given its shape, dated as it may be. But I always sort of liked Penny Lane as well, so what do I know. :haha:

I have a feeling there are some changes to the design that we haven't seen yet. Either that or the floor heights are a bit taller. If you add 1.5' per floor, you're almost at 100 feet just like that.

Yup, that would be nice indeed. Even nicer if they added a half dozen more floors.
