i dont really like this building that much
i mean i like it and all but its not the best of the WTC Complex

LostInTheZone Apr 10, 2007 6:07 AM

booooooring. The last thing New York needed was a resurgence in glass-box knockoffs. It's got really awkward proportions too- I once said that it looks like John Hancock's fat sister.

I will say though, this one has grown on me. The glass is really high-quality and the base with blue lights behind vertical prisms looks pretty cool at night.

I like it. The glass is of a quality variety and color, and I like it better than what was there before, to be honest. It's a nice filler building, which is exactly what that location always served as in its former incarnation, and won't distract, but rather add to the New WTC.

Yeah, it'll basically be background filler, pretty much blocked on all sides but the north. It's a fat building, but Goldman will be even fatter (imagine).

Still, this one has a more slender side.

Some older shots...

I suppose I should add some views I took from inside the building last year...

There was a photography exhibit open to the public last year. It was somewhere near the top, but not quite the top.

The view of the Woolworth is good !

I like this building at night. But during the day, its mirror effect makes it almost disappear.

LSyd Apr 21, 2007 2:49 AM

i like it, although it is "pop-architecture" as a friend of mine would say, but it's well done and there's not much like it (yet) in that part of the city.

I like how it looks semi invisible during the day.

BnaBreaker Apr 21, 2007 6:30 AM

It doesn't look bad, but it's pretty bland.

PhillyRising Apr 24, 2007 2:58 PM

It's shape isn't groundbreaking...at least for New York's high standards...but the glass is great. I love how buildings can go almost invisible during the day reflecting the sky.....

Do people think the old 7 WTC was a better building?

The old WTC is one of those buildings I never thought twice about. It was just there.

The new one is an improvement IMO! I only remember the old one from the video from 9/11 as it collapsed...so it really wasn't anything to base an opinion on before your pics. Thanks!

The old one slipped under the radar for a lot of people. And the traffic pattern around the base make pedestrian traffic difficult, one of the reasons it was connected to the WTC by skybridge.

Amanita Apr 30, 2007 7:25 PM

I just love the new 7 WTC..Sleek and gorgeous:)
And that fountain! Although it looks like some kind of balloon animal in the center of it..Heh.
