To be quite honest I used to agree with the guy until I looked into the feasability of a gondola... it is acutally much more practical than I thought it was initially.

Who wants to respond to this gentleman?
|
A covered escalator?! Don't even go there...
|
A covered escalator would likely be more expensive than the proposed gondola. Hong Kong's Central-Mid-levels escalator cost USD30M when it was completed in 1993 -- over USD60M in today's dollars.
|
Is it even possible to create an escalator 1/3 of the required size without it breaking down at least daily?

Wow. His arguments are mind-baffling... and false. For one thing, in my 4 years of being an SFU student and experiencing SFU snow storms, it is ALWAYS above Gaglardi and Burnaby Mtn Parkway that the problems happen.

Actually what was a waste was the 30 seconds of my life I spent responding that guy's letter to say nothing of the ink and paper it was printed on in the paper.
|
hey if this ever gets built, why couldn't similar gondolas be built on the east side of Burnaby Mtn & connecting onto the Evergreen Line, and in North Van & West Van also?
|
East side of Burnaby Mountain would link the Evergreen line with Annmore? :koko:

I still dont get how North and West van factor into it? Not trying to pick it apart I just dont really get what is being proposed here.

Ohh ok i see what you were saying I think. Problem with teh NS is that there is no densities up the mountain, all the denisty is strung out along the shore while the moutains are full of single family housing with absolutely no desire to use transit. LRT would be a much better choice for the shore with a line running E-W along Marine and a LRT or streetcar line running N-S along Lonsdale.

There are some discussions going on in a Facebook group about this Gondola. Apparently they are still discussing it.
I put in my two cents, but you guys could probably back me up a bit more. :worship: http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?to...d=156602867503 |
I just saw the FB group and the last post said this and i quote

Which would be shorter - a gondola south to Production Way station, or a gondola east to Burquitlam station? Perhaps they can save even more money by building it from the Evergreen Line station instead.
