I counted 150 floors..... am I right??? as far as I remember it's gonna be 162
Something is for sure... It's already the tallest building in the world :D

Toronto's CN Tower gets struck by lightning about 200 times a year. How many times a year can BurjDubai be expected to be hit by lightning?

Is Dubai the sort of climate that gets much thunderstorms and lightning? High winds?

As of 13 September, the official statement by Emaar was that the Burj Dubai had 150 floors. But, the final floor count of 162 is not really correct. The exact height and number of floors will not be disclosed until completion.
I think that there will be more than 162 floors. I am predicting 200 floors. We will only have to wait until they announce the completion of the tower until we truly know how many floors it will have.

While this does not answer any of your questions, I have to say this: Due to the Burj Dubai's height, its spire will be above the clouds. Therefore, lightning will not strike the top as it does for the CN Tower, but it will strike the side. The designers of the Burj Dubai's façade designed it so that the lighting's electricity will be dragged down to the base of the tower from where it struck on the façade. I am not sure how this works, but you can go to my source (Burj Dubai Supertallest Lecture by William F. Baker on 23 May 2007 - Lightning Protection) to see it for yourself.

Hello, does anybody of you have any clue how deep this "lake" is going to be? Cause it looks like the water will merely reach your knees and thats not very exciting ^^
Greetings

I don't think it will get up t0 200 floors! The average floor pitch must be about 11.5 ft. If you multiply that by 200 it gives you 2,300!! And that doesn't count the floors which have higher roofs!!! The spire is supposed to be what? 600 ft? I'm guessing 162 floors is right or close to it.

September 22nd, 2007… (My Birthday :5:)

FINALLY! I got a pass to go up Burj Dubai… :banger:

I was escorted by a high profile manager in Arabtec who let me in on a few secrets… Mwahhahaaha! :coolugh:

Alright,

As of 22/9 the completed floor count = 152
The last concrete floor, beginning of steel structure = 159
Observation Deck = 123/124

41 (The missing Floor) is a ‘Mechanical’ floor or Mezzanine. Serves as the roof of the Armani Hotel.

TOP OF PINNACLE (FINAL redesign No. 6) is… is… a… :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2:

I took pictures of the blue prints by SOM, Samsung, Besix, Arabtec & approved by Emaar… will upload them soon… when I leave the country!

I was happy to see it over 800 meters ))

The steel portion of the Burj Dubai will be built by Eversendai Engineering, a Malaysian company. They also worked on the Petronas Towers. Here is my source: Eversendai wins RM50mil job for Burj Dubai steel structure. The steel portion will begin at floor 160.

And, nice pictures Old Town Resident!!

Every week that passes this place gets more amazing. I managed to get into the Souk Al Bahar today and the Palace Hotel that opens 1st October. Every corner I turned was just another architectural surprise.

No sign of any steelwork being stored in the vicinity as yet.

I will post other pics of Old Town and Palace on the Old Town Forum.

Old Town Resident, I did a search for the Old Town Forum. I could not find it. Can you provide a link to it here please? Thank you.

Wait, what?

There is no way in hell the spire will be above the clouds in a thunderstorm. In it, at 2650 feet? Probably, but no way in hell above it. I've read of cases where thunderstorm clouds peak at 70 000 feet and have seen one with my own eyes of a cloud at 50 000 feet. The norm is about 20-30 000 feet, atleast 10 times Burj Dubai's height.

now, I'm not going to say lightning wont strike the sides more often than the top, as I wasn't the one that researched the local weather patterns... but I will say that the design is accounting for conditions outside what i would consider normal for tropical regions (from an aviation perspective).
