Great shots

Thank you scalziand for keeping us up to date with photos of the site. I can see that things are going slowly there, so there doesn't seem to be much interest in this tower yet... but it's still nice to have you and your photo updates so it doesn't get lost entirely.

Keep up the good work!

AS+GG is leading an interdisciplinary design team that also includes the structural engineering firm Thornton Tomasetti as well as PositivEnergy Practice, an energy services, engineering and consulting company. The other finalists in the design competition were the Chicago office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill; HOK Architects; GMP Architects; and P&T Architects.

Not to sound condescending, but is China ever going to design its own supertalls?

Do they need to? We have the best designers but they have the highest buildings.

Oh, I don't know. Is America ever going to stop buying Chinese manufactured products? :koko:

No, but we still design those manufactured products too....

:previous: Pretty simple, guys. Economies geared for totally different things. Service vs. manufacturing. We need both, and the fact that America and China don't both grind to a halt is a testament to the upside of globalism.

WTF? What is this complicated underground structure? Endless sub-basements? Innovative new foundation design?

scalziand Sep 15, 2013 8:15 PM

It's typical for Chinese mega tower projects to have 5-6 basement levels like this, with bracing to support the sides of the excavation.

I read somewhere that Greenland is building a Wuhan Center.
