Fascinating stuff! Thank you so much! It really exemplifies IMO the stark contrast between old post-Soviet/post-industrial Russia and new quickly developing Russia, especially in small towns like Listvyanka. If you only look at certain shots it almost looks like Afghanistan, and there is just so much abandoned stuff, holy crap, but at the same time there is lots of new construction and new cars mixed in as well.
Oh and its nice to see the swastika reclaiming its original meaning which is a Buddhist symbol of peace. |
Russia needs a makeover..
Cool pics once more mate! :) |
Wonderful thread!
The towns in the country side look quite rundown. I think 81 is one of my farourites :-) |
What a great vacation! I love seeing rural Russia. Nice photos, thanks!

Love it! What a great thread. I was here 17 years ago (oh my, time flies!). It looks very much alike actually, but also alot of new stuff. Like those fancy houses. Thanks a lot for sharing! (You can see my old pics here)

These are very interesting!!

This is a perspective on Russia that we rarely see on the forum. Excellent job, I eagerly await the next thread!
|
Fascinating indeed!
|
Wow, it's like another century over there.
Great stuff! |
I'm dating a girl who grew up on the shores of this lake. Its interesting to see how different her childhood must have been. She doesn't have a whole lot of photos since they were all on film and her extended family still has most of them over in Russia.

I have been anticipating your updates. Amazing stuff, thank you for sharing!
|
so like uhh... when are we getting Part 4? :)
|
Amazing... I want to visit this place one day. This lake containing 20% of the world's surface fresh water is a bit surprising given the size of this lake compared to some others. But I just checked on Wikipedia and it is so deep that it contains more water than the 5 Great Lakes combined)

Then there will be at least a part 5 and a part 6. Thanks to all for the comments ! @olga : I will watch your pics with a lot of interest. Thanks ! |
Good to see that you re-uploaded these. Some of those houses look pretty nice, although the infrastructure in the little lake settlements gives another impression.
