There used to be an old thread somewhere on the forum that had a ton of old pictures of the lanterns (beacons, etc.) on old NYC skyscrapers. It was really cool.

I guess we wouldn't want a beacon you could see 30 miles away (would be pretty bright for the residents of 44 Monroe, the Westin, etc.) but they could put in something softer yet still neat.
