I was in Bangkok twice last December - both for connecting flights to elsewhere. Winter is the best time to visit. The dry season means blue skies, although the mercury soars from the sun.

Bangkok is one of my least liked large airports in the world. Everything seems far away and the washrooms smelled bad. I had to rush to get out for my short 3 hours of sightseeing.

I didn't have enough baht to go all the way to the end of the line, let alone ride the express.

Makkasan station is surrounded by everyday life, and not shopping malls and touristy stuff. Bangkok is famous for its traffic, but it really isn't the worst from my travels.

Boat transport is still important to the city, although I was not expecting it so far inland from the main river.

Many little shrines honouring the king sit next to modern office towers and in the most humble tiny open spaces.
