Abenobashi Terminal Building Complex Project

Abeno district, is where the Abenobashi Terminal Building stands, a terminal with railways such as Kintetsu and JR and the subway (Midosuji and Tanimachi lines) entering into the district , and boasting 800,000 passengers who get on and off each day. Within the premises of our largest scale terminal, we plan to build a complex building called “Tower Annex” (tentative name) the highest-rise building of its kind in Japan-with 62 stories above the ground and 6 underground stories, comprising approximately 210,000m2 of total floor area and approximately 300m high. The facility consists of a train station, department store, offices, hotel, art museum and observatory. It is a big project combining our four core businesses including railway, retail, real estate and hotel & leisure facilities. We aim to complete the project in the spring of 2014.

Wow I actually love this design! Wish we were getting this in the U.S. Looks like it would fit in nicely in New York or Chicago. Can't wait for more construction updates. The renderings are beautiful. :)

Japan finally gets a supertall (building, not counting communication towers)

It's just too bad that they are building it in Abeno, far away from Osaka's main cluster in Umeda.

I don't remember my Osaka geography, last time I was there was in '85! But the rendering shows it isn't in the city center area.

Abeno is about 6-7 km south of the city center.

It's not everyday that we hear about a supertall for Japan (excepting those fantastic visionary ideas).

stunning. i assumed the design to be SOM over pelli.

Why is Japan lacking in supertalls? Do the earthquake regulations make them too expensive?

Or is it the general bureaucracy that stops all large parcel projects?

Love it! A tall building that is not being built just to be tall - it is ALL BUILDING (vs. spires, tiny floors, etc.). It does not look tall because it has such huge floor plates.

Not a true supertall in the 1,000 foot range, but still tall for Japan.

I'm amazed at the complexity of the project. What's lacking is the residences, otherwise, this building has everything (museum !)
It'll be interesting to watch the flow.

Well, if anybody can handle complexity, it's Japan. That's one of the reasons I'm excited for this project.
