Construction permit issued today for this building, according to the Chicago Architecture blog.

Given that foundation permits were issued last week (someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming the city wouldn't release these permits if the site did not have final environmental clearance to begin construction), and the equipment has been onsite for a while now, my guess is that caisson work has already begun (if anyone is able to make it by the site early this week, let us know, please!)

Caissons in the Ground?
Just thought I would report what BVic mentioned yesterday in the high-rise thread (I too forget sometimes precisely which high-rises have been given their own threads): Caisson tops spotted in the ground, but he mentioned he didn't get the clearest look at the site. This one may very well officially be under construction....if we get some visual confirmation, this thread can be moved to U/C......

^ Strange. This is kind of pricey equipment to just have idle like this (particularly with construction now really ramping up around the city) - and it's been just sitting there for quite some time at this site......
|
I just walked by and they are drilling
U/C for sure Took photo. Will post |
I wonder if the plan is to move the caisson equipment straight down to 9th and State when they're done drilling here?
|
^ Assuming of course you're asking because they are both Golub projects.
My guess would be no, as this is a Michels foundation job, while I'm assuming 1001 S State is a Case job (at least it was Case equipment that was on site briefly a couple weeks ago for the test bore.......so I'm assuming they weren't hired just for that, and have the contract for all of the foundation work)..........plus, it's possible that 1001 S State may even start construction (I believe they definitely will at least start site prep by then) before foundation work at 545 McClurg wraps up........ ^^ Thanks for the confirmation! |

Sorry for the picture quality, OFC the sun was at just the right angle that all of the rigs were in the shadows when I was there and the one rig that wasn't was in front of a building that has the exact same paint color. I've got a ways to go before I can run with Harry or George or the others on their shots. |

Today:
http://i.imgur.com/trfSDK1.jpg?1 This part of Streeterville is really getting thick with highrises. This, Optima II, and RIC are really going to tip the scales from "parking lot hell" to "thicket of highrises". Speaking of RIC, they are about to do a crane bump there, should start becoming really noticeable from all around town soon. |
^ now all they have to start doing is tearing down those god awful park garages and redoing all those large blob parking/bases that site underneath many of the steeterville apt towers....sometimes I question how these people became architects.?

Anyone been over to this site lately?
|
I was there a few days ago. Didn't seem there was too much progress made (most likely because it's winter) but I only had a ground level perspective. I may have noticed more if I had an above-ground perspective.
