SAN ANTONIO │ Witte Exapansion

Just wanted to start discussion on the expansion of the Witte Museum. I haven't see a thread started on this to date.

An overall from the Witte web site:

I'm excited about this. Should contribute to major growth along Broadway, but even if it doesn't, it creates a new destination for locals and visitors alike.

When taken in context with the DoSeum and the Pearl, there is a nice mix of residential, commercial, and cultural sprouting up on Broadway.

That's great. Will the dinosaur bones be real or replicas?

We've needed a big not-art-museum for a long time. I've loved the Witte for a long time but it's always been on the small side. The new South Texas history building is incredible, and I can't wait for the rest of the expansion. SAMA + the DoSeum + Witte are a little too spread out for it to be a proper museum district, but it's still good news for Broadway.

Been awhile, but

Some updates on the expansion.

The $15 million project, which will house its first major exhibition next month, will give the San Antonio institution some much-needed flexibility and an opportunity to pursue more lucrative events.

The Witte beat out Dallas and Houston to get Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed, which runs from May 14 through Sept. 5. Witte President and CEO Marise McDermott is confident the ongoing transformation of the museum will attract more blockbuster business opportunities.

Witte exhibit next contribution to Tricentennial:

https://therivardreport.com/witte-ex...to-metropolis/

"Pedestrian safety in San Antonio has been in the news lately, but has been an issue since at least 1906. Such unexpected facts enliven the Witte Museum’s second official contribution to the Tricentennial year, Confluence and Culture: 300 Years of San Antonio History.

An early, pristine Woods-Victoria model electric car graces the “Modern City” section of the exhibition, thanks to one of the first vehicle-pedestrian accidents in the city, which took place in Alamo Plaza. The owner of the near-silent vehicle, a Ms. Vanderhooven, put the car away never to be used again."
