Picture Portland
Here's another round of Portland photos! Yay! Hope you like 'em.
Downtown skyline from Park Plaza Apartments rooftop deck. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3319/...0eb50ae1_b.jpg City of Roses by markofphotography, on Flickr Hawthorne Bridge (101 years old this year). http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4123/...a43f9fc8_b.jpg 100 Years of Hawthorne by markofphotography, on Flickr The Willamette Valley: It was created by way of massive Ice Age floods that left the valley floor thick with flood-carried sediments, making the valley extremely fertile. As such, this was the "promised land" and was what immigrants sought while moving west along the 2,000-mile Oregon Trail in the late 1800s. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4151/...ed3d9e71_b.jpg Valley Floor by markofphotography, on Flickr The first volcano is easy to spot; Mount St. Helens is the mountain cut in half. Between the tall buildings at right is Mount Adams. The hardest one to see is Mount Rainier - just barely visible sticking out the left side of St. Helens. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1096/...9b6420ef_b.jpg Park Avenue by markofphotography, on Flickr Tiny SW neighborhood street dominated by Barbur and the 405 just off to the left. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1386/...a21fcd49_b.jpg City Streets by markofphotography, on Flickr Snow! Well, I guess you could call it that.. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5015/...e5f8088c_b.jpg Snow Day by markofphotography, on Flickr Twilight view of the skyline. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3271/...71c2301e_b.jpg Twilight by markofphotography, on Flickr Fireworks this past Fourth of July. Check out the horizon. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6051/...fe571c8e_b.jpg Fireworks, city style by markofphotography, on Flickr Sunrise over the Sunset Highway. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6220/...fd4fc4f9_b.jpg Rise & Shine by markofphotography, on Flickr The United States Navy and Canadian Maritime Forces have brought in a few battleships for Portland's annual Fleet Week & Rose Festival. Docked alongside Waterfront Park, these gigantic vessels make for an imposing but graceful presence. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4065/...eb68e10c_b.jpg Let's Play Battleship by markofphotography, on Flickr South Waterfront skyline. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4040/...2bef1352_o.jpg South Waterfront by markofphotography, on Flickr A construction worker tends to some last-minute detailing on the brand spankin' new Ardea Tower. The tower is Silver LEED Certified and all-in-all, pretty badass. I saw it again a few days ago, completed, and it was rad. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4026/...301104c7_o.jpg In the Details by markofphotography, on Flickr One of my favorite pictures I've ever taken. Got so lucky with that postal truck pulling up just as I was to fire the shot. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4030/...995a04be_o.jpg Mail Storm by markofphotography, on Flickr The Portland Aerial Tram is great fun. The views are so ridiculously fantastic I had perma-grin for at least half an hour after riding to the top. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6045/...4ae62406_o.jpg Ultimate Zipline by markofphotography, on Flickr Rooftop view toward South Waterfront. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5001/...5b77cf6c_o.jpg Criss Cross by markofphotography, on Flickr The second in a series of five riverfront buildings in Portland's South Waterfront neighborhood, Atwater Place is a slick addition to the river blocks. I've always wanted floor to ceiling windows... maybe this will be my next home. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3347/...86d303ff_o.jpg Atwater Place by markofphotography, on Flickr One of my favorite views of this beautiful city. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4057/...fa5b9527_o.jpg Portland Heights by markofphotography, on Flickr Standing directly on top of the Sunset Highway Tunnel. Yeesh. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6101/...002aff0d_o.jpg Let's Do This by markofphotography, on Flickr To get this vantage point, I strapped my camera to a giant pole that stuck out my car's moon roof. Well actually, I rode the tram. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6093/...de3cc58a_o.jpg Portlandia by markofphotography, on Flickr |

Here is one non-construction related picture I took of the Mirabella today. I've never seen it hit full-on by flat light, so I thought I'd take the snap. Very interesting contrast between the blue and grey now that the sheen of newness has worn off.

Great shot, philo.
I only wish we could get more buildings like these right downtown. Replace some of those ugly parking garages with residential density... |
Portland, you sure are beautiful! Looking at all of these photographs brings back the fond memories of my time living in Portland. I especially was a sucker for the view from the Rose Test Garden and Mt. Tabor. There were also some stairways in the Fremont/Laurelhurst area that have awesome views of the city. I really look forward to visiting this spectacular sister city.
