Awesome redevelopment of a mall. Wish there was that ambitious of a plan for some of the dead malls around here.

Busy Bee Mar 17, 2015 2:04 AM

Pretty ambitious. Very impressive. The details and materials of the neo-traditional architecture will make or break this project.

The retail anchors are going to be CityTarget, Trader Joe's, and CVS Pharmacy.

Also, I hope they plant enough trees because it's gonna be hot as f*** with all those pavers and brick.

"Hot."

Come to Texas and we'll show you hot.

It's fine, neighboring Inland Empire and some Valley locations are hotter than Texas...

We are fine here. The average 90s of DTLA summer are fine, we are fine with having extreme heat in our valleys and not in our city center on a daily basis.

The complaints about this development looking like The Grove or Americana in Glendale are legitimate. It's definitely a pastiche of Venetian Gothic, Collegiate Gothic, Romanesque, etc. That's Southern Californian architecture. Look at all the Geoff Palmer Italian "Fauxtresses" around LA. Look across the street at the main campus of USC. The fakeness is inevitable and even embraced here in the land of Disney. It still looks better than most of the Post WWII additions to USC.

Sic'EmBears May 5, 2016 2:46 AM

The fenestration is a bit repetitive and needs more resting space for the eye.

But aside from the inevitable 21st century scale (higher ceilings, larger windows, horizontal emphasis), I think it's a great addition to USC's campus.

Busy Bee May 5, 2016 3:40 AM

^ If anything I'd imagine they have lower ceilings than what a historic example would have had.
