The MLS commissioner left today "very impressed" and has been reported a decision on expansion in Sacramento could come as early as December. Everything seems to be in place. -Strong ownership -Land -Stadium Plan -Private Funding -Fanbase -Political Support I don't see how they can give it to Minnesota, Vegas, or San Antonio over us. #builtformls SacRepublicFC @SacRepublicFC 2m "I've learned a lot [here]...the people in Sacramento have such a pride here...I've never experienced anything quite like it." -Abbott SacRepublicFC @SacRepublicFC 18s "I leave incredibly impressed with what I've seen here and I'm looking forward to learning more. It won't be Vegas or SA. Just forget about that.
It's us versus Minny....I think we come out on top overall (especially with the MLS specific stadium plan), but they have a bigger population than us. I'm not sure how much weight that is. |
Here's hoping...

It would be like if the Golden State Warriors were instead the San Jose Warriors and presence mostly in the South Bay, the Kings would probably have a bigger reach down into the north bay for fans. Regardless, will be interesting, and I"m hoping Sacramento gets and MLS team because I think putting that stadium in the railyards will be huge to get that entire area up and running and only aid the urban core growth more. Go Republic! |

MLS Denies Sacramento Expansion After five year of being strung along, Major League Soccer has again awarded another city a franchise. The winner yesterday was St. Louis and their scheduled to kick off in a new downtown stadium is 2022. At this point, Sacramento appears to be used as leverage against other cities also wanting a franchise. There is steep price to join the league, in April the expansion fee went up to $200 million which many have forced the Sacramento investors to recalibrate? |

To deny: refuse to give or grant (something requested or desired) to (someone).
This was suppose to be a sure thing a couple years ago, but here we are. The confidence of those that think this is locked in is mind boggling, how can you believe anything these people say. You should watch their actions and not what they say. |
It's not about MLS not wanting Sacramento, it's about billionaires Ron Burkle and Kevin Nagle and other investors and the league arguing over who pays what and who makes X amount of money and what percentage of profit goes here or there and what clause is there if the team loses money etc. etc. etc.
From what I've heard Kevin Nagle has really bumbled and messed up the process, but now that Ron Burkle is involved it should be more of a sure thing. |
Burkle is known as a really tough negotiator.
I suspect that is playing a big part in what seems like this endless delay. |

Sacramento can pull it off, but after three years of delays, I have my doubts. Just like everything else proposed in this city… show me. |
