BIRMINGHAM l Vesta l 17 stories

Since Vesta is soon to begin construction. I thought it best to go ahead and start a threat dedicated to its progress and users' updates.

Please, any Birmingham resident, or passerby, post photos and updates of the Magic City's newest high-rise.

Total of 318 units located on Highland Ave, right between the Five Points and Highland Park neighborhoods.

Expected to be completed in Fall 2018

No updates as of yet, I went by there last weekend and that site looked the same as it has for the past several months.

However, I was wondering how it would/will compare to the heights of Children's and Grandview hospitals and perhaps the Hyatt Regency and the Galleria tower.

Really no telling until we hear more about it. Judging by the Diagrams that SkyscraperPage has, it should be about the height of Financial Center in downtown (based on the number of floors) or even the height of the Alabama Power HQ.

New info indicates that Vesta could be the 4th-6th tallest building in Birmingham.

TimCity2000 Oct 12, 2016 3:19 PM

what new info are you referring to?

a 17-story residential tower will not likely have that tall of a floor-to-floor height.

SpawnOfVulcan Oct 12, 2016 6:11 PM

My stupid mind. I went back to the article that I read, that led me to estimate the height as high as I did, and realized that I was using the wrong number of floors (I was looking at comparable buildings around 21 floors).

:/

I would like to see this project closer in, perhaps that lot on 18th Street and 2nd Avenue South across the street from the dual brand Hilton. I think it would be more successful down there. It seems so isolated down on Highland Avenue and Red Mountain Express. But thats just me.

I would also prefer a high rise be closer to downtown, but Highland Park does already have a number of highrise buildings, so this one really isn't all that out of place. It's sure to raise property values in the surrounding area, so in the future it'll be more likely we'll see vertical growth as opposed to more horizontal growth.

I just want to see it get out of the ground.

No doubt. Maybe once it is finally there and hopefully a rip roaring success it will inspire other, taller projects nearby.

Under construction with columns coming out of the ground in spite of frivolous lawsuit.

Yea, I read that the plaintiff's lawsuit essentially challenges something that a city ordinance had remedied before the plaintiffs saw Vesta as an "issue".

I don't think this stupid suit will hinder Vesta's construction in any way. The city passed an ordinance that remedied the "conflict" well before Vesta was even proposed, if I understood the news reporting right.

I guess this is the true meaning of a "NIMBY".

Geez, this thing is rising slowly... I had to go into the office early this afternoon, and took the Montclair route back home so that I could check the progress.

The second floor of the main tower is on its way to being finished, so call that kinda progress what you will. I could see the entrance to the parking structure off Highland taking shape, so that was interesting to see.

As we all know, Alabama winters are windy and wet, so we'll see what progress is made over the next few months.

Vesta is coming along nicely. After a slow start on the 1st floor, they have progressed to doing about a floor and a half per week, they have the 6th floor and about half of the 7th.
They have done the foundation and a wall for the parking deck with apartments planned to wrap around the deck.

Anyone have any recent photos of it being built?
