PARIS l La Defense-Tour Lumiere Cybernetique l 1,000 FT / 307 M l 1970 | NEVER BUILT

I think this is a beautiful/exciting tower.
The architect is Nicolas Schoffer

Then in 1986 Schoffer adapted it for New York City.

The only difference I see are the red white and blue searchlights (ick)

and again...after 9/11.

Wow, I don't get the point of this tower. Would it be just observation or what? And even though the tower is probably useless I still like it. I would've liked to see it get built but not in Paris or New York.

According to the article in French, the tower was a giant holder for thousands of mobile mirors that were supposed to concentrate and redirect light beams.
The tower could also accommodate 15000 visitors.

The FAA or random dwellers in the city that it would have been built in wouldn't mind that or anything...:haha:

Does anyone know if anything has been built on the Tour San Fins site in La Defense? I hope that design gets revived eventually if the land is still available...

:yuck:

It's trash. Architect who wants to instigate public reaction.

The site is not available anymore.
In its place, several low-rise office buildings have been built.
The chance that this design gets revived is close to zero.
OK, I'm done with the depressing news.

if the eiffel tower was a monument to cultural modernity, then this would have represented a decline into insanity.

ethereal_reality Jun 23, 2008 2:19 PM

It's kinetic sculpture to the extreme......I think it's great.

Maybe next with today's technology they can create one that projects holographic images over the city instead.
