XCOR, the private areospace corporation that plans on opening a research and development headquarters in Midland, can't do that until MAF is designated as a spaceport.

The city named the first four of seven members to the board of directors of spaceport development at the city council meeting on Tuesday.

According to mayor Wes Perry, Midland is one of two cities in Texas that qualifies for up to $15 million in funds from the state to develop commercial spaceports in Texas.

Mayor Perry says that as soon as five years from now, space travel may be a regular part of Midland living.

"You will start to see a shuttle like vehicle, leaving the runway, going straight up, carrying people and experiments to outer space, and a few minutes later, few hours later, coming back and taking off again with something else. it's futuristic, it's hard to believe that this could even happen in Midland, but it's a reality," Perry said.

If MAF is designated as a spaceport, it will be the only commercial airport and space port connected in the country, making it what Perry calls a "world class airport."

I guess this is Midland Texas? Not any of the other Midlands? Some more info and an introduction would be nice.

You must be geography challenged. The Oil clues should have alerted you to the fact that this was not Midland, MI. I have family in Midland, MI and have never been to Midland, TX. But I was able to figure it out.

I was being sarcastic. My grandma lives in midland, michigan and have spent tons of time there. I'm also from Texas.

Anyways, I'm really excited about that new tallest, that will be amazing for midland, like the Devon tower in okc.

Many people in OKC feel the same way about Midland's new tower and there's some that even envy it because it's not being added to OKC's skyline along with Devon. It's a stunning building and I personally am excited for it to get built. I also have no ties to Midland, TX, so there's no bias there.

Very cool tower. While Midland has a pretty impressive skyline, this tower is going to really stand by itself due to the great height differences.

Office building being converted into hotel

Doesn't say in the article how many floors or feet these towers will be. Judging from the rendering it looks like it may be.

yea but people were complaining that it was to tall. It is a loss but at least somthing is getting built and i think the new towers look like there going to look good

I actually prefer the shortened height, as long as the taller of the two towers is still a new tallest, which it looks like it will be. Oklahoma City looks kind of silly with the Devon tower, and I think Midland would have looked similar if the 50 story tower was built.

The taller tower would've been great but this is better. It gives your skyline a chance to grow more organically (rather than looking forced) and become more symmetrical. A taller tower after a few more in this height range will look more natural then.

Devon Tower is very pretty and I'm sure OKC has a lot to be proud of with that but it sticks out too much right now. More tall and dense infill is needed.

BTW are these 2 towers killing off a surface lot? That's even better. Nice design too.
