DUBAI | O-14 | 335 FT / 102 M | 21 Floors
Project: O-14
Architect: Reiser Umemoto Height: 102m Construction Status: 2007 |
It's so small... and weird. It might become more famous than most of the 80-story towers.
|
Cool stuff. Thought this was just an architect's proposal for a second but it's a real project. Business Bay will have a huge amount of towers like this, most will be around this height and most have a pretty fancy design.
I don't know if the bases are to be connected like that but hope so. |
It would look better of the holes were all the same size... or if there were no holes at all. It would look like Lake Point Tower in Chicago.
|
Hmm, interesting...
|
From these renderings, I sure like it.
|
They should call it the Swiss Cheese Tower.
|
Fabulous design , a defenite eyecatcher.
A great proof that the nicest towers are not always the tallest |
It'll definitely be an eye-catcher since it's directly on the waterfront which means it'll be easily seen from a lot of places.
Another larger render http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/7900/untitled2hm0.jpg |
Right next to the water in this map there'll be loads of these small towers and a lot have pretty decent designs. This particular one is located a little further up. A sample of some more of these towers:

Looks like a microwave and a toilet roll but some more renders would be nice to see what it looks like properly :) http://www.ameinfo.com/images/news/8/32918-dp.jpg |
It looks like a giant steel sponge!

Just a news article which means it's officially launched rather than just appearing on an architect's website:
http://gulfnews.com/business/Real_Es.../10090558.html http://gulfnews.com/images/06/12/17/18_biz_creek_4.jpg The tower will have four levels of underground parking, and high quality restaurant, recreation and retail outlets. Creekside's Dh300m O14 Tower due to be completed in 2008 Staff Report Dubai: Creekside Development Company, which is owned by Al Baraka Islamic Bank, is developing O14 Tower at a cost of Dh300 million, the company said in a statement. Due for completion at the end of 2008, O14 Tower will be located at the Business Bay. Designed by award-winning architects Jesse Reiser and Nanako Umomoto of New York-based Reiser and Umomoto RUR, the structural engineering of O14 Tower will be completed by YAS P.C. "A concrete shell creates a lace-like facade for the 21 storeys of custom-designed office floors," a company statement said. "But this is architecture with a purpose, as the structure provides unique levels of light, air and views." Rising above Dubai creek on a shore side site, O14 Tower will feature 21 floors of custom designed offices, four levels of underground parking, and restaurant, recreation and retail outlets. Background Reiser-Umemoto were finalists in the design of the BMW factory in Leipzig, for which they won the 2002 AIA Design Award. They also won the 2002 Graphics Design Annual award, and were among those selected to put forward design proposals for the World Trade Centre site in New York. For over 20 years, AlBaraka Islamic Bank has pioneered the development of Islamic banking and finance. Established in 1984, the Bank has developed into a leading diversified Islamic financial institution. So they say finished in 2008, so that means finished in 2009 :) |
I really like the design, it makes me hungry for chesse lol!
|
Oh, look, the same tower Miami's getting.
meh. |

I think it looks fantastic. It certainly shares similarities with the COR in Miami, but they are most definitely unique. At least it's not another anonymous glass rectangle. |
This came a few months before the Miami one though ;)
|
this is a cool building but why is it called 0-14?!?
|
Jarlesburg, anyone?
|
Gorgeous.
|
Definitely needs to be moved out of here :)
