Cruise down Gratiot Ave

Part I of my photos from my weekend trip to Detroit. I know I am not the best photographer, but I do have a new camera, and I have been playing around with the editing settings on the computer. So please exuse the weird contrasts. I was trying to make the photos look a little artistic. In addition to comments about the street, please let me know if you think the photo's look like crap or o.k. Let me know if I should have left them in their natural state.

Anyway we drove Gratiot Ave from the suburbs all the way into Downtown Detroit. So enjoy a cruise down Gratiot Ave.
Gratiot is one of the spoke roads that lead into downtown Detroit.

ENJOY

Very nice work. The photos are great, can't say the same for that street (maybe it's the gloomy, grey day). What's will all the barber shops?

hudkina Jan 15, 2007 11:36 PM

For being such a long road, there sure weren't that many photos.;)

You didn't get any pics of the new streetscapes in the Eastern Market area? That stretch of Gratiot just outside of Downtown is looking a lot better, and as Eastern Market sees new development, hopefully the Gratiot corridor in that area will get it too.

Eastern Market pics will be coming :)

I was stuck in the backseat in the middle seat, so I was not able to get as many pics as I wanted.

Cool pics, Mike. I've always liked the way the skyline looms ahead when driving into the downtown area on Gratiot.

Those photos are sickening, sprawl and decay.:slob:

Nice set, Mike!

Nice job, Mike. Detroit retail corridors consist of very few things. Liquor stores, beauty supply stores, and gas stations. It is very difficult to attract retail in the inner city because it is very expensive. Those that do come down pay in excess for security. In fact, there was a murder at a new barber shop last night at Gratiot and 8 Mile (on the Eastpointe side however). It's a sad reality and one of the largest obsticles facing the residents of this city.

They are looking for renters on the top floor, why dont you move in? Rent is $40 a month, utilities not included, I mean not available.
