St. John's | Year Two

Photos of my second year of university at MUN here in St. John's, Newfoundland. These were taken from August 2011 to April 2012. It was a fairly uneventful year, but still quite pleasant. I don't really have much else to say about the year or these photos, but nevertheless, here they are.

2. Cabot Tower on Signal Hill overlooking the city.

3. It was the first year I really got out to see the cruise ships. It's really impressive how big some of them are given the small size of the harbour (and the narrow entrance to it).

16. I miss winter. I hope it snows soon.

18. Fort Amherst from Signal Hill.

19. Duckworth St. One of the two main commercial streets downtown. Plenty of good food to be found here.

20. The best feeling ever is waking up to this view out my bedroom window. It generally means MUN is closed and I can go back to sleep.

23. Cape Spear; the Easternmost point in North America. I've still never been there, but I plan on hiking there in the Spring.

24. March 16th, 2012 St. John's saw a wicked ice storm.

29. Here we can see the Narrows; the entrance to the harbour. This is why I was surprised at the size of some of the cruise ships that call here.

31. Brick isn't all that common in town (aside from Water Street), so this does stand out to me.

32. A different view of Fort Amherst from downtown.

33. What St. John's is famous for.

39. The Battery. Always a nice place for a stroll (also part of a loop that goes up to Signal Hill).

40. I walked out to Fort Amherst during a full moon. Here's Cape Spear from there.

49. Looking back towards downtown (with the Basilica and the Rooms) from the greenspace next to the Confederation Building.

59. It can get foggy here. It's cool every now and then.

66. I honestly find Water St. difficult to shoot during the day as it's always lined with parked cars. I should go down there with my camera more often at night.

67. Just a few days before I went home to Calgary, I walked over to Quidi Vidi to check out some Icebergs. April 20th, 2012.

73. Quidi Vidi is an old fishing village tucked away in a narrow inlet. Now part of St. John's.

I love this photo, I can imagine blocking out the entire world very easily sitting in one of these stages for a very long time in the summer.

I am convinced I must visit this beautiful place now. Great set of photos.

Amazing images. I really get an edge-of-the-world/completely-isolated vibe from these shots. It must be a trip living there. I couldn't imagine living so far away from civilization.

When I first came here the isolation was very apparent. I've gotten used to it now, but there's definitely still a feeling that you're really far away from anywhere else. To me it plays a big part of making St. John's what it is.

St John´s under the snow is very pretty. Love those shots, and those of the icebergs are stunning too. I´d like to have the pleasure to visit that land.
