Now I know what Indy looks like, nice.
|
A few things come to mind.
First - Indianapolis is looking great. Better than ever. Second - I like the buildings you call ugly but tall. That's OK. Third - Your photographs are beautiful. You are causing me to want a new camera. Fourth - You are conquering the Midwest & Mid-Atlantic. We are still waiting for you in New England. |

Second: Different strokes for different folks, I guess! Third: Thank you very much! Means a lot coming from a great photographer like yourself! Fourth: Yeah, definitely conquering the Midwest and Mid Atlantic. New England will probably have to wait a while, mainly because it's still a good distance from Pittsburgh to Boston, which of course needs to be the hub of any New England trip! Aaron (Glowrock) |
This is what we need around here, more Indianapolis!
Just beautiful! http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/DSC_0534.jpg Does the Indy area contain any row homes like Cincy and the Chi ? |
^Not really. There are a select few rowhouses in the St. Joseph and areas north of downtown but no neighborhoods.
Great shots Aaron. |
This is great. Love this type of shot in any city that can pull it off.
http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/DSC_0461.jpg This arena is massive. I heard it cost a fortune to build too. http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/DSC_0512.jpg Quote:

That was a fun trip. I see you even got a shot inside Circle Center. Would have been more fun had ColDayMan let me borrow his phone to request music videos in the mall food court. |
I'v been waiting for a solid Indy thread and you defiantly brought it. Would love to visit this city one day. Thanks for sharing

And thanks for the props on my photos! Aaron (Glowrock) |
That's a great tour. It gets me amped up, I will be visiting Indianapolis for a few days next week. Question for those in the know, are there any open observation decks? I hear the one in the monument is closed for the renovations you could see in the picture. Thanks!
|
i've been to indianapolis at least a dozen times and i couldn't pick out two-thirds of this thread as indy specific. the marriott and regions buildings must be new since i've been there (which was most recently in march!), because i sure as hell don't ever remember seeing them. the repertory theatre too. must have just opened. yesterday.
nice photos, glowrock. |

Spectacular thread on Indy! Always liked that city.
|
Indy is a real eye pleaser! Wow!
|
while the city's middle american culture admittedly looks boring, there are some real gems in indy. thanks for the tour!
|
Fantastic stuff. I eagerly anticipate my hometown through your camera lens
|
Great shots. Indy is very underrated, mostly due to it's 'clean-cut/borderline sunbelt city' reputation. It does have midwestern bones though, and it definitely shows in these photos. Great job.
I think that Regions Bank Tower is an older tower reclad by the way. |

You guys should see a game at Victory Field next time. You'd love it. I may make a thread of a game from there before summer ends. .......Look at this...Indy is getting more attention than my San Francisco threads. Way to go Indy..:P:D
|

I am an Indianapolis booster. It's got a solid downtown.
I have to say, I hate the Marriott, though. It's an ungraceful slab. |
Well, bugger all... now I'm smitten.
|
Even though its 10-11 years old, I really like the way Conseco Fieldhouse's design pays tribute to all those great little basketball arenas scattered throughout the midwest that were built early to mid 20th century.
|
Solid pics of a very handsome city. I especially like the way the monuments, fountains and government buildings are arranged--it really feels like a capital. I've known Indianapolis for decades, as it is the birthplace of my father and his father before him, and the center city especially has come a long way from the "Indianoplace" some of my relatives once desparaged. Very vibrant and alive.
|
Buckeye, both Conseco Fieldhouse and Lucas Oil Stadium are pretty great, and both fit in well with their surroundings. But yeah, the Fieldhouse fits in so well it's unbelievable!

I've always loved Indy. I don't understand why so many people think this city is not urban.
|

I don't know, maybe it has a "Denver urbanity" side to it, where it's still urban, but just not on the density of the more traditional East Coast/Rust Belt cities, that's all. Aaron (Glowrock) |
Nice photos of my beloved home town. You've inspired me to go out and take some pics.
|
Not sure how this thread slipped past me. I always like seeing my city portrayed in photos like these.
My very first job when I moved here was working security in this bldg.... http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/DSC_0451.jpg |
Superb photography, and you covered a large amount of territory! The best Indianapolis thread yet!
The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art is well worth a visit, along with the interior of the World War Museum (a time trip into a monumental 1920s Art Deco world) and the interior of the state capitol. |
It's so nice to see some old photothreads of mine coming back from the dead! :) Robert Pence, thanks for the nice comments, and I definitely plan on hitting up the Eiteljorg Museum the next time I'm in town!

so-and-so!
the ugly one! I want a dancing digital lady. |

Right now they have a motorcycle exhibit there. http://www.eiteljorg.org/explore/exh...s/steel-ponies |
I saw Monument Circle thanks to the Megabus stop in Indy, but it was kinda sad to see how many parking lots there are just a few blocks north of there. Got a glance of the bike/ped trail too, but didn't take any photos since they just stopped to pickup or drop off people and move on.
|
Indianpolis architecture looks beautiful
|
very nice photos.
|
A very underrated city.
Thanks Indy. |
