Hey,
I am unaware of a thread to discuss the merits of Winnipeg Restaurants.
(If one already exists, please merge this thread into it).

I have a very specific question:

Where can one get Chicago Deep Dish Pizza in Winnipeg?
Who here has ordered the "Chicago Deep Dish" Pizza from Chicago Phils?
Was it good?

as for restraunts

kumko garden (spelling) china town good food
dimsum garden aww so good speacly when u go for happy hour dimsum at 2pm also in china town

pyramid falaful on Sargent and Young SE corner in the south part of that strip mall its a Ethiopian restaurant really good food

had some realy good vietmise food also but the names of the places fail me since just get draged to them so never took notes of the names but there in the west end on sargent and on elice...

brunch at the fort garry

then theres the cordan strip sushi, itialian ect ect ect

Yuki sushi on main st in the mclaren hotel worth checking out

I had a pizza at Chicago Phil's around 7 years ago, and it was completely inedible. For fantastic, genuine, Chicago pizza, visit Chicago.

i've had the deep dish pizza at cafe 22. i remember it being incredibly filling, but i dont remember if it was good or not.

food in cafe 22 is generally poor - and i'm being polite

my faves in descending order of cost:

rae and jerry's
keg downtown
shanghai
palatal express

gondola is the only pizza for me...but it is far from deep dish.

I have to agree with picks #1 and #3..

The Princess Street Grill is always a good source of a cheap breakfast.

And I'll add Yuki's, the Confusion Grill and the old diner that Kraut King has setup into the mix.

As far as fine dining went, I miss the old Gilroy's on Bannatyne and the Mertens rooftop patio that offered perhaps the best skyline view in the whole city from atop of that apartment block on Oakland Ave.

Another cool place for me has always been eating at the Terrace Dining hall at Assiniboia Downs.

Said experience is made even better when your horse wins. :D

hmmmm... Gondala... I haven't had edible paper thin cardboard pizza in a long time. maybe this weekend! Thanks TV for reminding me.

1ajs...deep dish is exactly that, it's baked in a deep dish. Pizza Hut is borderline deep dish, but nothing like the real stuff. When in the states I go to Chicago Uno which is a chain but has a decent 'za.

Yep, I think you have a point. I'm planning to go there with my Wife, since its within a 2-day drive from Winnipeg. Never been. I'll get the real thing there.

the paddlewheel in the bay for sheer nostalgia and uniqueness.. where else can you get jell-o, noodle salad and a beer?

for a grease fix, i say vj's drive in wins.
casual/lounge - confusion corner is great!
pasquale's on marion for italian can be great as well.. best caesar salad in town!

For evening eats:
Liquid Lounge (Amazing wings, and the cheapest frutti de mare going)
Jonesy's (3133 Birds Hill Rd. - best appetizer in the world - the onion blossom)
Miso ($17 all you can eat sushi. How do you go wrong?)

spent my even last night in the palm room at the fort garry with some old family friends from outa town not bad bit pricy but hey its the fort garry ur paying for it lol
also the place was packed


as for breakfast theres the windmill on selkirk bit of a whole in the wall these days but its still the north end breakfast with the juke boxs at ur seat

also can't forget alicias on megregor for bortch and ukrainian food

I really liked them, but I'm wondering what other restaurants also serve perogies in the North end? I am not familiar with the area.

Yes, sir. On Bannatyne, right near Blu-Fish.

I like Garwood Grill, both for pizza and greasy breakfasts.

Love Ray and Jerry's - was there for lunch in the bar the other day. I hate to admit it, but i look forward to funerals because they may serve those tasty roll up sandwiches.
