New stores coming to Central City

Went through Central city mall/tower the other day...it has definitely picked up a lot of foot traffic and lots of new stores "coming soon"....anybody have any ideas what is coming in? I see the escalators are being reno'ed

SpongeG Mar 12, 2010 11:30 AM

they have been saying "coming soon" for years now

their own website doesn't even show Bed Bath & Beyond on the map

rumoured to open though a few years ago were: H&M and Liz Claiborne

Yes, but I think something is up as they got the temporary drywall up in a few different locations, and new stickers on the front saying "coming soon" where before they had nothing. Maybe its nothing, but looks like a few stores are under construction. Makes sense with SFU expansion/infinity towers being finished/ and ultra tower about to begin

Due to some cunning detective work by Yours Truely, I bring news about Central City mall expansions.

They're going to be doing some serious renovating of the upper middle section and some moving around on the lower part. The whole middle section of the upper floor is going to be closed off and a new "anchor tenant" is moving in. The affected area is from Starbucks to Tim Horton's/Kins Farmer's Market. All the stores currently in that area are being relocated. The new tenant space is going to be HUGE.

On the lower floor, the passport office is moving from the Gateway building and coming to Central City. It'll be taking the space up currently used by Shoe Warehouse (or whatever that store is), the Mobility Store, and the clothing store that used to be the pet store.

All in all, lots of stuff going on in that mall.

Thanks for the update, CH.

It would be nice if a future renovation established a better connection to the south side street presence of the mall facing Holland Park. (I realize the present changes you mention don't concern this side). In my view, the lack of south side connectivity is one of Central City's two most significant issues. The other, as I see it, is the woefully inadequate east frontage, particularly the Zellers portion. Looking forward to hearing what the new anchor tenant will be.

Interesting, that will be a major tenant then, I wonder who the new tenant could be.....trying to think of what mall type tenant does not have a presence in North surrey/Guildford

Whalleyboy Mar 15, 2010 8:30 AM

maybe toys r us is being smart and moving from there location into central

sryboy Mar 15, 2010 5:59 PM

Or maybe its H&M :)

Whalleyboy Mar 15, 2010 9:03 PM

If an H&M comes to Central i would hope it would be once Surrey gets a retail street like robson going
as for the mall i would like to see it house mainly just the big stores that are to big for a street retail

SpongeG Mar 15, 2010 9:29 PM

they could have multiple H&M's in surrey there already is one in south surrey... when they opened here they said they plan to have 10 stores in the LM so far there are 4?

Whalleyboy Mar 16, 2010 4:30 AM

I know! It was only there for two seconds or so, right?

I think that sign is part of the wallpaper. If you walk around, at least before all the new empty stores went up, the wallpaper over the walls showed a number of different well known stores in the exact same text.

label depot - isn't hangers opening too? hangers is like a ghetto version of winners there was one in new west its horrible
