Residents Rally to Save Ruppert Playground http://assets.dnainfo.com/generated/...age320x240.jpg City Council Speaker Christine Quinn rallied with residents and other elected officials on Sunday, Oct. 16, to save Ruppert Playground. They are hoping to work something out with Related, which plans to build a 49-story tower on the site. October 17, 2011 By Amy Zimmer Quote:

Stupid NIMBYS. If they want their 'free' park so bad then they should create a fund to buy back the land from Related. It would be moot because they would barely raise anything when push comes tl.shove and actual $$ is involved.
|
I am sure a resolution could be reached to open the roof areas of this building for public use as green space, and a park to make up for what is being taken away.
|
Related is at least in talks with officials about saving the park. But I think it's more likely to be developed.

Cancer Center Slated for East Side Tower By ELIOT BROWN October 31, 2011 Quote:

With that sort of a partner for the tower, I imagine Related could get going on this tower relatively soon. The lot looks relatively small as well, so if it's topped by 35 floors residential floors this could be relatively tall. Great news, thank NYGuy.

With the amount of park space opened in the city over the last few decades, you'd have to think that these people just like to complain.

Some people are really stupid.
Did they really think Related purchased the land, maintained it as required (and for three additional years) and weren't going to develop it when they had the right to? I have an idea, I'm going to buy a piece of land, pay taxes on it then not do anything with it. |

One of the few cases where a height reduction isn't a bad thing. I don't think a 49 story tower would fit in with this location.

I wonder why the hospital space in the lower floors was scrapped of the recent design.
