Next stop: Ottawa

Here's the grand finale from the city that keeps on giving, and inspired me to take up photography in the first place.

These photos were taken from atop Hamilton's tallest, Landmark Place.

That was pretty cool.

HomeInMyShoes Mar 15, 2009 1:24 AM

It's been a blast flar. Hamilton deserved to have a promoter like you.

Have fun in Ottawa. I know I did when I lived there.

astroblaster Mar 15, 2009 1:30 AM

Another awesome set. Bittersweet for us Hamiltonians, who won't be seeing these wonderful treatments of our city anymore.

Hamilton is a very misunderstood city. An outsider only needs to look at Flar's photosets to see why we love it here.

Thank you so much Flar, for showing the world the beauty that exists here.

niwell Mar 15, 2009 1:57 AM

Awesome set! While I'll be sad to see the end of frequent Hamilton photo threads, I very much look forward to the same treatment given to Ottawa, a city I know quite well.

Incidentally, I was in Hamilton on Friday night for my first time (not passing through that is) to do the James St. art crawl. I stayed at a friends in Westdale Village, got to go to an after party at one of the galleries and thoroughly enjoyed all of the city I saw. It has a very interesting vibe and I plan to go back in the near future. It also helps that I found out it takes me about the same amount of time to get to Hamilton as it does from my house in Toronto to York University, and only marginally longer than it does to get to work.

ItsConanOBrien Mar 15, 2009 2:02 AM

Quite a view from up there! Good luck with the move.

boden Mar 15, 2009 2:34 AM

Are you relocating to Ottawa?

This is not a thread btw.........it's a f........n masterpiece!

Evergrey Mar 15, 2009 2:34 AM

I am saddened that you are departing Hamilton, flar. Your photo essays have been a regular treat. I never thought I would be interested in Hamilton, but you have enlightened me. Its built environment is beguiling... it's urban character bewitching.

While the charms of Hamilton will grace this forum more infrequently... your deft camerawork will offer us exciting treatments of new urban frontiers. I look forward to your interpretation of Ottawa and its environs.

JManc Mar 15, 2009 2:41 AM

i had no idea this city as this big. nice photos.

plinko Mar 15, 2009 3:01 AM

The photos in this thread are so crispy. That train station platform roof is pretty interesting.

Is that DT Toronto in the distance in this photo?

M II A II R II K Mar 15, 2009 3:08 AM

Yes it is

giallo Mar 15, 2009 3:22 AM

Awesome thread, man. I gotta say though, I'm bummed that we'll be seeing a lot less Hamilton now. You really opened my eyes towards the place.

Jimby Mar 15, 2009 4:38 AM

Awesome shots, what a vista! Good luck in Ottawa.

matt602 Mar 15, 2009 5:12 AM

All the best, we will miss you in the Hammer. An excellent way to go out, that's the best seat in the house there.

stuckinexeter Mar 15, 2009 6:58 AM

excellent!

best of luck in Ottawa..... your photos should be an inspiration to others on how Hamilton can be seen in a fresh new perspective.

stuckinexeter Mar 15, 2009 7:22 AM

Interesting shot.....

this photo is rare.... capturing 2 high schools, 1 public school & 5 churches...
good job flar..

softee Mar 15, 2009 11:01 AM

Excellent. I look forward to your Ottawa photos!

flar Mar 15, 2009 5:02 PM

Thanks guys! It's been a pleasure exploring Hamilton and extra fun posting the photos here because it is/was such an unknown city. I'll really miss Hamilton's gritty urban streets and distinctive brick architecture. I'm saddened to leave (especially since there was more I had hoped to photograph) but also excited to begin exploring a new city.

Yes, I have a new job.

adam Mar 15, 2009 5:59 PM

I just fell in love with the city all over again. Thanks Flar!

Kingofthehill Mar 15, 2009 6:19 PM

Damn.

I never thought we'd see the end of your seemingly endless barrage of Hamilton.
It was fun while it lasted though.

May I ask what brings you to Ottawa?
