At 515FT tall, the Frost Bank Tower is nicknamed the Worlds Largest Nose Hair Trimmer.

This building will always hold a special place in my heart and will continue to be a focal point in the skyline. It may not be the tallest anymore but it will still be an icon of the city.

the Genral Jul 2, 2009 1:41 AM

Before construction started on The Frost, the tower picture sign at the construction site said "A world class city deserves a world class building", mission accomplished...
Nice photo btw.

I'ts too bad they turn off the crown lights at 2:00 AM. I understand the need to conserve energy, but I think this building looks best when it is lit up at night. Since it isn't the tallest anymore it doesn't stand out like it used to during the day. But at night it really stands out because the lighting is so much better than any other building.

AustinSkyscrapers Jul 2, 2009 3:41 PM

Ya, it really stands out because it has the brightest of lights in the night. Now it might look like 1990's for the rest of the night. :(
No other building will match it's elegance.

I still can't see the owl. Sure the Frost logos are the eyes and the crown is its head but still... Does anyone look at it see only the owl now?

It can see you too.

Frost will always be the one skyscraper I won't forget watching go up. It was the first that cracked the 500 foot mark and the first major skyscraper that I really got to enjoy and watch go up. Sure there was 300 West Sixth, but Frost especially was a fun one to watch.

Hope you get an understanding.

Priller (I think) had posted a pic of a manga/anime owl that looked similar to Frost Bank... can't find which post, though.

I wonder what it means by left eye 6.00 time in that picture.

If I told you, I'd have to kill you...;)

Here are a few images. Sorry for the overload. Too bad Emporis doesn't have those building facts anymore. I was going to put them here.

This building is beautiful and is my personal favorite in Austin. It would look even better if it was a few hundred feet taller so it dominated the skyline.

the Genral Nov 15, 2013 3:54 AM

Many of us here have always felt that it was 10 floors shy of where it should be.

Jdawgboy Nov 15, 2013 8:58 AM

Agreed. I love the Frost Bank Tower, but I would love it even more if it was 500 feet taller.

I have always had this fantasy that a much taller Frost is build: with the base as a major retail [ grocery ?] : the lower glass tower area as office floors; the more slender tower area as a hotel; and the horizontal banded area, with balconies, as condos. Now that would be GREAT. The block north of Republic Square is the site. The hotel and residential entrances are facing the park on 5th; the retail entry is on Guadeloupe; the office entrance on 6th.
