Miscellaneous Recent Projects
We have all sorts of threads for skyscrapers and threads for buildings in every stage of proposal and construction possible - but what we don't have is one for recently completed buildings. Particularly smaller, lower-profile buildings that tend to fly under the radar. So let's let this be it.
It's pretty open-ended - this thread will be for things like houses, institutional buildings, museums, low-rise apartments. Even some of the lesser-known high-rise buildings are fair game (we can probably do without photos of Absolute World and the Bow). Just so long as it's more-or-less complete and was built within the past few years. And good. Let's see some of the best of Canada's newest buildings. Here's a few from in and around Toronto to start: Aga Khan Museum Architect: Fumihiko Maki Completed: 2014 https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2947/...5fc03972_b.jpg Aga Khan Museum by tmo222, on Flickr https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2944/...ede2a054_b.jpg Building on faith by tmo222, on Flickr Terrence Donnelly Health Sciences Centre, University of Toronto Mississauga Architect: Kongats Architects Completed: 2011 https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2930/...84019fcb_b.jpg UTM by yeliR <>, on Flickr Residence for the Sisters of St. Joseph Architect: Shim-Sutcliffe Completed: 2013 https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3925/...85d4057f_b.jpg Modernism in the morning by StephenCaissiePhoto, on Flickr Fort York Visitors Centre Architect: Patkau Architects & Kearns Mancini Architects Completed: 2014 https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3913/...e32c048b_b.jpg 20140918. Great thread idea and posts, Monkey. Almost all of those buildings are beautiful. I especially love Residence for the Sisters of St. Joseph, which surprises me because it's not my style at all.

It was an eyesore the day it went up, and it only continues to get worse as the years go by. At some point they're going to be compelled to replace those flowers with proper windows. |
Stunning selection of buildings. More, please!

Re an earlier post, the Perimeter Institute in Waterloo is not part of the University of Waterloo. It is an independent research institute. |
I know rousseau isn't the only one who dislikes the School of Pharmacy building, but I actually like it.

A few from Memorial University of Newfoundland's west coast Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook.
The administration building. http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...3_edited-L.jpg I have no idea what these two are. http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...4_edited-L.jpg http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...9_edited-L.jpg The new dorms. http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...8_edited-L.jpg The new City Hall - an extension of the old one (right). http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...0_edited-L.jpg And a couple from St. John's. The Narrows condos. http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...7_edited-L.jpg It's a tribute to the adjacent Devon Row, formerly a residence of the Prime Minister of Newfoundland's staffers, etc. http://i60.tinypic.com/154uct0.jpg They actually look quite cute side-by-each. I'll have to get a picture that shows them both. Jack Astor's and Legros & Motti, basically an especially fancy harbourfront kiosk on the harbour apron. It literally replaced little wooden chip wagon-style buildings. This is what was there before: http://i57.tinypic.com/1feem0.jpg (CBC NL) http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...1_edited-L.jpg http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...3_edited-L.jpg The Department of National Defense. http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...3_edited-L.jpg And the Quidi Vidi Plantation, an artists' studio. It's the yellow building top. http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...7_edited-L.jpg http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...3_edited-L.jpg http://www.signalhillhikerphotograph...6_edited-L.jpg |
Great idea for a thread!

Wow. Some amazing building. University campus architecture looks to be leaning towards very modern impressive buildings.. :)

Those houses that monkeyronin posted make me weep tears of joy. Just beautiful!
(Although I would warn anyone considering something like the "cutaway house"... my home has similar design cues and as such I have to be careful not to offend the neighbours. Never had those concerns when I was living in a highrise condo...) |

UofT Mississauga has some amazing buildings. Was very surprised when I was dragged out there.
Wow to Winnipeg. Some I've seen before. Others I'm glad to have been introduced. The Edmonton Art Gallery is just awful. The glass pattern and white mullion caps are the worst. |
