European 100m+ complete/uc/prep

There doesn't seem to be much content about the european skyscraper scene here, the number of towers in different eu cities, towers under construction, new projects, completed, proposed etc, so i thought i'd start one.

This thread is for skyscraper statistics for different eu cities. As new projects begin and others are completed i will keep the stats updated to give a real time picture of the changing european skyscraper construction scene.

As well as being a statistics thread new projects, construction news and updates can be posted here.
Lets try and get some life in the european section of ssp.

So, Azerbaidschan is on the European continent since when...? Kiev and Tiflis are on the list but Istanbul and Moscow are not?! Anyways, these lists are always arbitrary and therefore nonsense imo.

Here are some more German cities missing:
Hamburg- 5
Mannheim- 4
Düsseldorf- 3
Bonn- 2
and several with 1- i.e. Leipzig, Nuremberg, Bremerhaven, Offenbach, Jena, Augsburg, Travemünde (Lübeck), Fellbach (Stuttgart), Timmendorf...

Berlin is at 11 already.

Frankfurt has two more projects with 5 towers in set-up stage: ONE (190m) and FOUR (228m+172m+120m+100m). The city will be at 41 this year, with 10 u/c.

Announced today: NH Collection Hotels is building a 415-room hotel tower called "Spin Tower" in Frankfurt. Height: 128m. Construction start: 2017.

-> 42 towers of +100m

Arbitrary?, how so. The number of 100m+ towers in a city is an exact thing, it has what it has, it doesn't have what it doesn't have, its about the most non-abritary thing there is

Again, your geographic definition of Europe is arbitrary- for instance Incl. Azerbaidschan and excl. Russia is certainly arbitrary. But really I don't care...

It's always been so, since strictly speaking, we've never been any real continent as accepted by geographers. We're an outgrowth of Asia and some kind of giant peninsula surrounded by the Atlantic ocean and its seas, such as the Mediterranean which actually belongs to the Atlantic.

Europe was traditionally defined as something cultural, or even more or less ethnic even though it doesn't make much sense. I think the Anglo people call our ethnicity "Caucasian".
I'd rather define it within its European Union boundaries nowadays. Although, of course, the Brits are still European despite Brexit.

Anyway, the Montparnasse tower that so many find infamous in Central Paris is to be refurbished. The work should be done by 2023, so the tower looks better for the 2024 Olympics.
There were 700 architecture firms (nothing less) to propose their designs for the contest.
By now, only 2 remain. The American firm of Jeanne Gang and a consortium of 3 French firms.
People here seem more confident in the American woman. Her firm is based in Chicago and she is more used to work on high-rises than the French consortium that lacks experience in that matter.
So, I hope Jeanne wins the final game, myself. Her firm must have worked hard on the project.

We'll keep you informed about the plan, since the lone tower has been stuck right in the central city. Its refurbishment is a significant move.

picard Jul 23, 2017 9:30 PM

A few new towers around montparnasse tower would help it look much better, less jarring. A cluster always looks better than a standalone tower. I hope they dont change it too much as its a good example of that type of architecture, it just needs some neighbours to balance it out

picard Jul 23, 2017 9:35 PM

Several new proposals in london, paris, frankfurt and manchester, will update the list soon as there has been lots of recent developments, approved towers entering uc, proposed becoming approved and new proposals, its becoming difficult to keep up. New towers begin construction almost every week in london

picard Jul 25, 2017 7:31 PM

Manchester has climbed to 2nd place in the EU table of 100m+ uc, just behind london but ahead of cities like paris, frankfurt, rotterdam etc. With more towers starting later this year too manchester will have a decent skyline when they're finnished.
Its good to see other british cities outside london building tall. Birmingham and liverpool are having to do the same now to keep up with what they now call the 'northern powerhouse' manchester

100m+ UC/PREP

1. LONDON
2. MANCHESTER
3. FRANKFURT
4. WARSAW
5. KIEV

While I like how you're trying to build a list of this it doesn't mean all that much if it doesn't provide sources or at the very least a list of the buildings included.

Jonesy55 Jul 27, 2017 8:43 AM

Here's the latest summary for Manchester with the stage each building/project is at.
