Algonquin College centre awarded national green building prize
By Natascia Lypny, OTTAWA CITIZEN July 9, 2013 OTTAWA — An Algonquin College building has been chosen as one of eight structures across Canada awarded with a Canadian Green Building Award. The Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence, a LEED Gold Level designated building, was praised for its sustainable design and educational elements. The building features interconnected indoor and outdoor spaces, a green roof that collects rainwater and a biofilter wall. Skylights provide natural light. Constructed as a ‘living laboratory’ for the programs it houses, the building bares its design to students and the public: They can see real-time building water consumption, heat transfer and structural loading. People can also access the mechanical rooms and green roof, and see renewable energy demonstrations. nlypny@ottawacitizen.com twitter.com/wordpuddle © Copyright (c) The Ottawa Citizen http://www.ottawacitizen.com/enterta...ry/8636561.jpg http://www.ottawacitizen.com/enterta...ry/8636560.jpg |
