Austin's future skyline
Chiveman and I were thinking we could use a thread to show images showing Austin's future skyline. Of course some of these are older and a few of these projects haven't happened.

Thanks Kevin!
Here are my most recent images showing what Austin's skyline could look like. I added a 750' building on the courthouse block and added a few smaller projects, so this should be all of the buildings that we have heights for right now. Red= Proposed Blue= U/C Grey= Approved Black= Done with construction http://i.imgur.com/IDA5Y2z.jpg Aerial just to show locations of buildings. http://i.imgur.com/zVX6Nrr.jpg Showing what it would look like from House Park. http://i.imgur.com/subso07.jpg Showing what it would look like from Zilker. |
Nice work, Kevin and Chiveman! And great thread idea.

That's a lot going on. Nice to see it in pictures after following so many proposals on the site in separate threads.

Good. I hate that building.

Any chance of getting some updated views on those proposed/uc buildings to reflect recent changes and announcements? Those views are great at giving us a sneak peak at the future skyline... I'm especially interested in seeing the change in relative density as many of these low-mid rise building start to get built.

This is an old thread I thought I'd give a kick to and see what happens. Here's a recent rendering by Henry Han.
Maybe others feel like adding some more because there are new proposals/UCs that aren't even included here. https://i.redd.it/dskolnjsn4i41.jpg https://i.redd.it/dskolnjsn4i41.jpg |
Man, that 21C project not happening still hurts. That would have been a nice tower that would have given the skyline some good height for years before we've reached this point with a few more talls. And while I've been glad to have the Frost Bank Tower all these years, I think if it had been proposed and built these days, versus then, that we might have been looking at a supertall. A supertall Frost Bank Tower. :slob:
|
That pic from Henry is just amazing. Not JUST because it's awesome and a job well done -- but also because I can count something like 7 missing buildings that are either already done or hotly anticipated.
BBVA Hanover Republic Square Hanover 3rd and Brazos 5C The Avenue 5th and Brazos (topped off) A couple more speculative buildings in this view: 4th and Brazos Block 16 Keeee-razy. |
Yeah, and The Republic. I mean, it's just so awesome. It's like the Matterhorn standing there.
|
Man, what a trip down memory lane! What ever happened to Priller?

"Where's Priller?" comes up every once in a great while in various threads. The last time it did, Kevin said he thought Priller moved to North Carolina.

Jack, you resurrected that rendering, this one belongs in here as well while we are at it

As much as I love The Sail, or whatever we're going to ultimately call that one (a la London-style nicknames for their more unique buildings).... I can't help but wonder if I'm going to be worried about the view of it looking from the east. It seems like that side is less inspired.
Not that I can do anything about it, and it's still a stinkin' cool building. Just wondering out loud. |
I don't know how accurate it is, but (because I couldn't sleep) I went to Wikipedia and compared the sizes of Dallas skyline to Austin's.
If we assume that every building in Austin that has been proposed does get built, it would go toe to toe with Dallas' skyline. I know people have said that Austin's skyline would easily rank with Minneapolis and Denver, and whilethat is true, based on Wikipedia it's probably gonna be most comparable to Dallas. I also did a comparison with Houston's but thought it was pointless because Houston is much larger by comparison that it doesn't even matter. Based on the list, and again, assuming that every building does get built Austin would tie Dallas with 11 buildings at 600' + and it would boast a 1,000' skyscraper. Both cities would also have about 10-12 buildings at 500' and roughly the same in 400' buildings at around 14 of them. But again, this is only wikipedia so I can't say for certain that the list for Dallas is accurate and up to date. I thought it was questionable that Dallas only would have about 10 buildings at 300'. Austin currently has 20. And if all buildings do get built, Austin would have 33 dwarfing Dallas with buildings starting at 300' and up. And even though the numbers for Dallas may be inaccurate and Austin's may not all get built, it's still a bit eye opening just exactly how crazy Austin's skyline is growing. |
WOW. A trip down memory lane, indeed! I so wish that T. Stacey materialized! That is the type of point we need that high up!
Agree with Kev, 5C was one of my favs and hurts every time I see a render :( |
I think Dallas is hard to compare when you include metro, that tollway out to Plano, it’s lined with office buildings. I bet those don’t count in Dallas totals. But yes austin skyline is competitive and considering we are much smaller and young we are moving up the ranks quickly.
