THe incline from Rubio Canyon up to Echo Mtn was a favorite place to take/sell souvenir photos, so a look into the LAPL or USC digital phots will reward you.
THe incline was spectacular, but the 42" gage electric line up to the Tavern was no less so, particularly the Great Circular bridge. That part was traversed by totally open 4 wheel cars so one could enjoy the abyss easily. Those were later replaced by 8 wheel cars that had curtains on the outer side for basic weather protection. If you REEEAAALLLLLY are a fan of Mt Lowe, find a copy of the book by Charles Seims- lots of pix, most made by Pierce, a professional photographer
And it wasn't the depression that killed it, it was fire in the Inn/Tavern ca 1936. In 1937 the whole thing was ripped out, and the Forest Service dynamited the Echo Mtn power house in the 60s- BASTIDS.

There is a set of drawings of the river bridges at Library of Congress in the HAER section.
Several years ago, LA City had a hard to dig out site named Vault that contained horrid microfilm views of blueprints- white lines on blue backgrounds for most of the older ones. But those included the construction drawings of some of the river bridge.
LA 'saved' the drawings by microfilming, then I presume trashing the originals. Where did I put my BASTIDS stamp?
One of the better sets I excavated were the plans of the Los Angeles Municipal Railway.
There were two; the one to which I refer ran on San Pedro St from Aliso to 9th, was built by the PE for LA, which leased it to PE and as part of it was dual gage I presume LARy paid too

And, check YouTube for some interesting historical film footage. Yeah, interesting area. Hiked it a few times.

I, too, got to see and meet Tab Hunter at a VSDA (Video Software Dealers Association) trade show convention around twenty years ago.
I have a photo of us together somewhere. Some years later I happened to see or hear when his birthday was and I found out that I actually had
met him on his birthday, though I didn't know it at the time! His birthday is July 11th. :(

Just recently there was an announcement about a movie in the works about him and his relationship with Anthony Perkins, to be titled "Tab & Tony."

A look at his star says he's a music recording artist? Oh.

Sears Building
 

Surrounded by nothing, the Sears Building always look terribly impressive. Great post Lorendoc !

I hadn't noticed that, but you would've thought it would be for films. I wonder who decides the category? You used to be able to have one in different categories, but space considerations limit it to one now. I thought maybe he had more than one so I looked it up. He does have "one" star. He was proud of his music career success with several albums and the #1 Billboard hit (6 weeks) "Young Love." And I love the musical "Damn Yankees."

You can see him sing "Young Love" here on the Perry Como show. It was the first time he ever sang solo in public! His nervousness is, well, downright adorable.

His star is located at 6320 Hollywood Blvd. on the south side, in between August Lumiere and Anjelica Huston, between Ivar and Vine Street.

I thought perhaps the bowling alley utilized part of the property where the Hotel Virginia once stood. [the hotel was torn down in 1933]

Below: You can see, especially on the right, how the Hotel Virginia property had two different elevations. [and the bowling alley appears to be subterranean]

I just looked up 25 Chestnut. It's quite difficult to tell where, exactly, the Pike was located. (what with all the added land and what-not)
Could anyone outline where the pike used to be on a modern google-aerial?

The lay of the land hasn't been totally obliterated compared to the earlier view. The Virginia would have been on the left in the view above (that's the Sovereign on the right, condos since it was built in 1923). The 2014 Press-Telegram article at this link says one could (at least in 2014) still see a bit of the Virginia Hotel's foundation at Ocean and Chestnut.

I'm not sure what I'm looking for/at, but that concrete stair rail looks the same/similar to the one in the Virginia Bowling photo:
