One Pacific (Formerly The Colours) | Completed

Pacific @ Nelson (in the "crotch" of the Cambie Bridge):

AfaIk there are no pics other than what's on the Concord Pacific website (where all those came from). The first one looks really cool.

It might look nice, but I have this random feeling that it is going to look like spectrum. Oh no...

Mr. X, can you change the title thread to match the names of other threads?

I think this development is called Pacific @ Nelson... but I'm not too sure actually...

http://concordpacific.com/pnelson/

Edit: there is no official name at the moment...

It's a whole lot better than Spectrum, all they did was paint different buildings with different colours.

This development has real potential, and I absolutely love the skybridges.

You just love the rainbow colours of the building, Mr. X!

If I can't have my rainbow arch over Davie, I want two rainbow arches by Cambie Bridge!

I'm calling it the "Cambie Twin-Twin-Rainbow-Towers" for now. :D

The Spectrum condo owners should be pissed.....these babies have every personality!

amor de cosmos May 9, 2008 12:21 AM

I wonder who the architect of those rainbow towers is. Those coloured glass panels remind me of Quebec's National Library in Montreal, which was designed by the Patkaus:
http://www.patkau.ca/project/gbq.htm

The Patkaus run one of the most respected (from what I've read) companies in Vancouver but afaIk they haven't done a highrise condo building yet. Those glass panels have appeared in other buildings by them in one form or another also.

Cool -

The coloured spandrels look better when they are randomly staggered like that - probably like 999 Seymour will look like. I assume that they are spandrels - do you think they'd have the guts to install coloured vision glass? Now THAT would be cool.
The bridges follow after Concord's Parade project in TO.

Ultimately - standard Concord product superficially repackaged.

I wonder whether the outside of the curve will be coloured too - that's the side visible when approaching downtown on the bridge.

Also, the site plan looks to REMOVE the public plazas that had been proposed for the two triangular sites when the Cambie Bridgehead area was rezoned to allow choice of use - these two sites had been envisaged as a plaza (with Smithe cutting through) flanked by office towers. This puts the towers on the sites of the plazas and shifts the open space to a cut-out on the corner of the building (inside of the curve). Mind you, I doubt that a public plaza at that location would have been very successful.

that needs its own development topic, not here.

David May 9, 2008 3:47 AM

I like it. Screw starting the pride parade at thurlow and robson. it needs to start here! ;)

someone123 May 9, 2008 4:28 AM

The staggered coloured bits do look pretty good. The rendering itself (and maybe the buildings as well) look like something from an old video game, though I could imagine it looking slightly better in physical form.

mr.x May 9, 2008 4:29 AM

do you know what would be cool? if the entire facade was lit up electronically....and that you could play TETRIS on it!

entheosfog May 9, 2008 5:28 AM

I like it so far in this rendering at least...kinda reminds me of the Colours condo project in Calgary but the coloured glass is more spread out.

vanman May 9, 2008 6:16 AM

These towers will really depend on the materials used to make it work. So far I like the curves and the bridges (will they actually contain housing units or amenity space?) but I'm not so sure about the colours. Maybe they should stick to different shades of blue green and white for example instead of trying to cover all the colours of the spectrum.

Is this on the land Pavco plans on developing right near BC Place, or right next to it?

It's right next to it.

These two twin towers kinda remind me of Calgary's Encana....certainly, they're nowhere as big or tall but they have a similar curvature/concave when you include the skybridges. You've also got those trees in the skybridges, public green space inside the building just like Encana.

Architype May 9, 2008 8:17 AM

It seems like Vancouver is destined to fill every bit of available space. It's efficient use of space, but I can't imagine wishing to live in that kind of location. Also, the design might be interesting enough, but this kind of rendering is really just a caricature of what it will actually look like. The idea of the colours is appealing though.

Delirium May 9, 2008 1:20 PM

i like too. the curvature of the buildings is certainly something new for van. the sky bridges are cool but i think having 2 would be sufficient and look better than having 3.

i'm wondering if the colour is actually workable solar shades (like 999 seymour) and not spandrel. might be the new trend for 08?

danby May 9, 2008 1:22 PM

very nice im liking this i don't lihink it will look like spectrum at all this is colored glass.

What would the skywalkways provide? indoor gardens? ideas?
