Looks nice but sort of reminds me of Atlantis on steroids and seriously palm trees in Korea?

Fabb Nov 11, 2007 5:40 PM

Those Korean supertall projects are entertaining.
One day, maybe, one of them will emerge.

Saddle Man Nov 11, 2007 5:43 PM

It looks good from above, but crappy from the ocean.

Yeah, people like the guys who decided to build the Empire State Building where there were practically no buildings of comparable size nearby, what a bunch of idiots... Good thing we are much smarter than them here on this forum and know not to put buildings in places where they might stand out...

SNT1 Nov 12, 2007 6:47 AM

IMO, they can do away with the middle part between the two main skyscrapers. Keep the upper skybridge, though xD

gttx Nov 12, 2007 1:28 PM

Ugh. The height isn't the problem - the problem is that it's butt ugly.

wsxyz Nov 12, 2007 2:18 PM

Where are they going to find that many Koreans willing to swim? The usual in Korea is to go out till your knees get wet and then run away from the 2 foot waves.

I just don't see Busan turning into a big tourist destination anytime soon anyway. When Cheju is just a hop away, why would anyone settle for Busan?

When the Empire State Building was built, New York already had the world's tallest building just a few blocks away. And that building had just beaten out another former world's tallest a few miles downtown. Yes, it is substantially taller than the Chrysler building, but it was a completely different story from something like Taipei. Building the Empire State Building in New York then was equivalent to building the Spire in Chicago now. Both much taller than anything around them, but at least the same order of magnitude.

I'm starting to think the governments over there are paying architectural firms to crank out renders of non-sense buildings every 3-4 weeks. How many ultra-tall proposals for them is this now?

I would say that probably the most likely supertall to be built in Korea is the Busan Lotte Tower.

There would seem to be more than the rendering indicates. Certainly nothing like 517 meters, but there are a couple over 200m-65 stories, UC.

Busan to Have 117-Story Building

Busan Metropolitan City will launch a big project to build a 117-story resort building. According to Busan Urban Development Corporation (BUDC), it will enter into an agreement with ``Triple Square Consortium (TSC)’’ on Tuesday to construct the super large resort building at Haeundae, the biggest beach in the country.

If the agreement is completed, TSC will dig ground for the construction, which is scheduled to end in December next year. A total of 1,540 billion won will be invested for the 511 meter-tall building in the land size of 584,000-meter square.

The super-large building will accommodate hotels, condominium, a water park, stages for marine animal show and a four-dimensional theater. ``The planned resort will be the landmark of the port city and is expected to boost tourism industry as well as economy in Busan,’’ a BUDC official said.

If I only had a dollar for every proposed (but unbuilt) supertall in South Korea....

colemonkee Aug 25, 2010 6:15 PM

^ Yes, but how many of them have had a "four-dimensional theater"? I mean, a theater that can travel forward in time surely gives this development a leg up, no? ;)

Rail>Auto Aug 26, 2010 4:25 AM

I didn't know South Korea had such a great economy.

Infernal_Elf Sep 6, 2010 11:07 AM

very nice design hope they get this through the obiously insane south korean economic paperwork and approval from the government

BStyles Sep 6, 2010 3:28 PM

Yes, a very beautiful design. I'm all in for this one.

Take that, Ryugyong.
