SEATTLE — An entity related to GID Development Group of Boston paid $16 million for land at 2101 Ninth Ave. where it is planning a 41-story, 396-unit apartment project.

The seller is an entity related to Cornish College of the Arts. Cornish bought the site in 2003 for $4.6 million.

GID has started construction on a 41-story, 355-unit apartment tower at Eighth and Lenora, across the street.

Permit records show GID filed for shoring and excavation permits for the tower on Ninth last month.

Weber Thompson is designing both projects for GID. Sellen Construction Co. is the general contractor for the Eighth and Lenora tower.

Denny Triangle is getting another high-rise. It will be a 41 story apartment located at 9th and Lenora.

It has been in the works now for months – the Developer GID Development group just received design approval from the Seattle Department of Planning and Development (according to the DJC). They are the same group that has been developing the cool steel and glass structure at 8th and Lenora – another 41 story project with 355 units.

Enso at 8th and Blanchard and 2200 Westlake (Denny and Westlake) are the 2 closest condos to the 41 story tower. The west building at 2200 Westlake that we refer to as 900 Lenora is located directly accross the street from the new project.

Construction is expected to begin this spring. The tower, will feature 430 units and 238 parking spaces. It is exciting to see what will occupy the 8,000sf of retail space. Although views are blocked for many West facing 2200 owners, the retail component and the life that brings to the city is what is really important

Glad this is u/c. So many towers for this great jewel in the North West.

Visited for the first time a year ago, and want to go back badly. :hyper:

One of the few cities in the nation that I can say actually incorporates very well with nature (picturesque surroundings), yet keeps a striking, and unique urban character.

This will be a great complement to Cirrus right across the street!

I totally agree with chris08876, Seattle real estate has found a beautiful way to incorporate the urban development in with the cities environment so well. Glad to see this apartment high-rise going forward.

A third tower at the same height (all 425-440' or so) is the one shown in the gray in the March rendering. This broke ground a few weeks ago and they're now putting in what appear to be steel soldier piles. Another similar tower could be close to starting (needs a land use permit) at 970 Denny. Along with the existing stuff this could be a nice activity zone soon. A ton more is planned but even before those it could be pretty busy.

Long ago I realized that even a 400-unit tower doesn't make a neighborhood much busier on its own. But do a cluster of them, plus existing stuff (other housing, art college, Whole Foods, offices, hotel, etc.) and you should get real activity.

Quite a few more similar towers are proposed around 440' within a few blocks of these. And more big Amazons and other offices. It could be epic in a few years.

In the last pic, that's three residentials topped out (or nearly) but not complete including the two in the back...great shot. And the 2014(?) non-identical twin of the main subject on the right. And the third 520'(?) Amazon tower in the foreground.

Yes, it's a great new city view.
