The state of Oregon is poised to receive some big exposure in Europe.

Next January, the European Travel Channel will air a 15-part series called "Oregon Uncovered." The show will be seen by an estimated 48 million viewers. The European Travel Channel film crew began shooting the series in Portland last October and will finish in Southern Oregon this September.

Featured Oregon attractions include Mount Bachelor, Powell's Book Store, Multnomah Falls, landmarks on the Coast, historic Jacksonville, the Columbia Gorge and wineries in the Willamette Valley. The show will run for three years showing twice weekly in primetime spots in Germany, United Kingdom, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, France and Italy.

Travel Oregon -- which serves as Oregon's tourism commission -- is sponsoring seven of the 15 episodes. A slew of other local sponsors are also on board.

European tourism to the United States is on the rise. The Travel Industry Association of America forecasts an 18 percent increase in Western European visits to the U.S. by 2010. More than 11 million Western Europeans visited the U.S. last year, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Good news.

Hopefully we'll continue adding more direct flights to Europe, particularly the obvious addition of PDX-Heathrow.

^^^Agreed. Infact I'd rather have a direct to London over germany and amsterdam anyday. I wouldn't hesitate to guess that a majority of europeans visiting portland and oregon are from the UK.

love the visitors!

The problem is nobody in there right mind will transfer at Heathrow when they can do so at Schipol or Frankfurt. I think traffic to and from London is insufficient to support the flight alone.

Portland's 'major' employers are based in Germany, and apparently Amsterdam, so this makes sense. Besides, what is better than connecting America's pot city with Europas?

I'll bring this question back. Has anyone seen or know where you could purchase these videos?

Edit: I emailed Travel Oregon...lets see if that gets a response.

Their response:

Thanks for your inquiry. "Oregon Uncovered" is being aired on the Travel Channel Europe channel in the UK. Travel Oregon owns seven of the episodes and the other 8 episodes are owned by various entities in the State of Oregon. Eventually, there will be boxed sets but a decision has not been made on that as yet. Please keep my email information and check back with me in six months. I may have more information at that time.

Yay Luxembourg!!!

This would really bust Oregon's popularty down there, it's nearly impossible to see anything about Oregon without looking for it.

It's a pity it's not shown in Spain, I think Rudy brought some popularity there.

Anyway it was about time Oregon got a part of the big cake that tourism in the North West is.

Lets do this!!!

cool beans, we could use a lot more tourist dollars.

Because of the state of our economy and very weakened dollar, it is pretty advantageous for people to visit the US.

Hopefully they utilize our direct AMS service so that sticks around.

Bring 'em on!
