US OKs $196.5M for high-speed Chicago-Detroit rail

Saving only a half hour isn't a big deal, especially when you consider that a huge chunk of time is often wasted waiting for freight trains to pass or other stupid annoyances.;)

As it's been stated in the Transportation subforum, the other projects currently under construction (Indiana Gateway and Englewood Flyover) will also significantly reduce travel times between Detroit and Chicago. Those projects are designed to reduce congestion and make sure that Amtrak doesn't have to wait for freight trains. When all three projects are complete the stated goal for the trip is under 4:30.
