Fort Macaroni & Cheese?

Don't forget Moose Factory. How about a more concrete geographic delineator? E.g., 60 degrees parallel north?

Edited the thread title to capture the void on this forum.

The Deh Cho bridge would be about the biggest thing happening in these parts wouldn't it? Other than pipelines...

That helps a lot!!!

Since you included Labrador, here's some general news.

Quote:

Labrador City copes with booming development

Labrador City is growing rapidly and keeping pace with development is a rising challenge for the municipality.

The growth comes in the wake of several announcements by the big mining companies in the area. The Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) is going through an expansion that is expected to see up to 900 new permanent positions. . . .

Building up might be the best option . . . because the town doesn’t have much land to spare.

That is AWESOME!

Thanks Architype! very interesting news. Labrador technically isn't a territory but it is completely unrepresented anywhere else in this forum, so therefore I declare it an honorary member of this thread

Architype Sep 28, 2011 5:34 AM

Some of the places you listed are not in the Territories. Canada's North traditionally includes more than just the Territories, but now I noticed the thread title says "Territories".

Yeah, sorry. Someone changed the name on me, I listed those places thinking it should be more about Northern Canada, the places that are under-represented in this forum. But having the title "Territories" sounds a bit nicer and works well with the context I guess. However, I am including Labrador into the name and list as we speak.

True but almost every city has a similar project. Calgary's Peace Bridge.

Forgot to add Baffinland Iron Oar Mine.
The redevelopment of Town of Iqaluit. New Rec centre, City Hall, Arctic College redevelopment of the Federal Building.

With regard to the northern territories.

Labrador and Nunivik should be part of the sticky. Work in these regions is considered remote work.

Nunavik is the region of Quebec north of 55.

vid Sep 29, 2011 12:42 AM

Ontario's far north is about as remote as Labrador (accessible only by air), and is becoming a mining hotspot. Currently the only proposals, other than mines, is a large power plant north of Geraldton. This is all south of 55° though.

On the other hand, Nunavik is supposed to be covered by the Quebec forum and Labrador is covered by the Atlantic forum. But alright, for the sake of this thread, this thread is open to that discussion too.

Here's an article about Iqaluit; although it's over a year old, it's of particular interest to this forum.

"Iqaluit's not going to look like a village anymore. It's going to look like a city."

Awesome news :) I love the development going on in Iqaluit. It is so interesting to see a tundra hamlet turning into the worlds first full-fledged Inuit City :)

Thanks much Architype!
