Nice photos of the med center. The growth there is out of control.

Here are a few more projects for your map, WesternGulf...

You know, I really like the design of the Braeswood, given its location. The design seems to fit in with the MCMs that line Braeswood Blvd. as it heads to the east of the location.

I was under the impression there would be other uses for this superblock. Hrm...

Hello

Great_Hizzy Apr 26, 2007 2:49 PM

Yes, welcome.

By the way, I see official advertisements for the Highland Tower at the old Central Ford site. I hadn't noticed it before. Shows what appears to be about a 12-15 story tower done in beige stucco with a brownish-red rooftop (terrace?). Looks like it would be well at home around the Waugh/Allen Parkway/Memorial Drive area.

Cory Apr 26, 2007 3:29 PM

Welcome rocktgrl!

Yeah I saw that rendering too Hizzy albeit going 50 mph. It looked good from my short glimpse. Totally not the same development. I may have to go back, stop and get pics. (But I am sure you all have noticed how reliable I am with that. LOL. I'll try.)

It will be interesting to see if the Columbus Flats sell well. They are building 14 smaller units with most priced under $200,000 in the River Oaks/Montrose/4th Ward area.

I also noticed this new condo going up on J STREET!!! This will be one block off of Navigation Blvd on the east side of Lockwood. Man, the gentrification is spreading pretty far to the East.

That is pretty far east. To further that point, I was in the warehouse district yesterday along Leeland and was pleasantly surprised by the continued construction. It appears a couple of warehouses are about to be razed for what I assume will be more of Frank Liu's townhome projects.

Here is a pic I took yesterday for the Highland Tower east of the High Street development. Glad to know there will be 2 projects on the former dealership lot. There will be 99 residences in this project. The architect is Ziegler Cooper. www.highland-tower.com

Luxury high-rise overcomes stalls to leap off the construction block
Houston Business Journal - April 27, 2007by Jennifer DawsonHouston Business Journal

2727 Kirby will be the first residential high-rise developed inside the loop in two decades.
Local developer Mike Atlas began construction last week on a 30-story condominium tower in the River Oaks area that will be the first high-rise residential property to be developed inside the 610 Loop in the past two decades.

The upscale 2727 Kirby tower is being financed by TorreĆ³n Capital LP of Austin, while an undisclosed fund trading on the New York Stock Exchange is providing a loan for the deal. Atlas secured financing last week after pre-selling 35 percent of the building to 30 owners.

* not the first to be constructed in the loop in 20 years as the article says =X

Woohoo! for both of those.

Trae Apr 27, 2007 8:33 PM

Glad to hear this!

Shasta Apr 27, 2007 8:51 PM

First residential high rise to be built inside the loop in the last two decades?

Uh, what about the Royalton at River Oaks? What about the Museum Tower? What about the Robinhood? What about One Park Place under construction for the last few weeks?

That's some lazy reporting.

As an aside, I like the simple look of the Highland Tower. I also like the idea of some smaller hi-rises going up in the 10 to 18 story range. Those have always appealed to me. Now, if someone would just build one in midtown/museum district area on the light rail line...

Shasta Apr 27, 2007 9:44 PM

I just went through the Highland Tower site. This actually wont be a part of the Oaks District or the High Street. Instead, it will be located behind those to the North (towards San Felipe). In fact, this tower is proposed to go near the corner of Bettis Drive and Briarglen Drive right behind the Briarglen. In fact, the same team (Pelican Builders and Ziegler Cooper) were involved with the Briarglen.

The best thing about this site is all of the proposals nearby that are on the locater map. They include;

The Oaks District (phase one with 2 luxury hotels, 300 residences, 80,000 square feet of office space, and 350,000 square feet of retail

High Street (luxury apartments and retail)

Another proposal by Pelican Builders (not named) behind the Briarglen and Highland Tower

Morgan Residential proposal for luxury multi-family

Coach Realty proposal for luxury condos

c4smok Apr 27, 2007 10:06 PM

I like that one also =)

We need to update the front of this thread with all the projects again... update designs and all the new projects..

Also add in that Map WG setup =)

really want to get blocks set correctly under the pins on that map also

Does anybody have an Emporis account? I'd like to know what buildings are proposed or are in the works.
