Project in brief: In 2006, Houston-based Interfin Companies purchased a well known local restaurant known as The State Grille and a nearby small office building on 2.6 acres of land near at the intersection of Weslayan and West Alabama. The site was cleared in 2008, after the company had announced plans to build a 27-story highrise at the site. In the wake of the downturn in the economy, Interfin held onto the site for some time, until PM Realty picked it up in 2011.

After the deal, PM announced a proposal that would see a 35 story, 250 unit apartment tower with parking and retail in the base. RTKL is noted as the architect with the project. Construction expected to commence in Q2 of 2012.

And just last month, a promotional sign with a more defined rendering of the base appeared at the site. The address on the sign, however, refers to the office building the developer owns across the street.

I really hope this gets built, its a beauty.

This week, the Buisness Journal had an interesting piece on PM Realty, the developer of the tower, and a partner they had hired away from projects tied to The Woodlands.

What is of note inside is that the tower is still slated to begin construction during this quarter, and that there are at least a couple of other sites within the loop the company is holding on to at this point. The hint is that they too may be ripe for development in the future.

Swamplot has posted a new and more refined version of the initial rendering at the top of the page. Today's post still offers roughly the same information as has been mentioned previously.

What part of Houston is this? Such a massive field in what I assume is central Houston.

It is Central Houston but there were restaurant(s?) on this site that were cleared I believe.

If by "central" Houston you mean "downtown" then the answer is no. This site is about 5 to 6 miles Southwest of downtown and about 2 miles East of Uptown/Galleria.

It's closest highrise neighbors will be the towers in the Greenway Plaza area, although the immediate neighbors will include a 15 story AT&T Building and a 12 story tower that used to be the home of Baker Hughes Corp.

However, it's a GREAT location for residential. River Oaks is just a few blocks to the North, Upper Kirby just a few to the East, and Linn Park/Highland Village just to the West. There are a ton of brand new apartments in the area (midrise) as well.

The site used to house several buildings but most came down in the early 80s speculative period. The one remaining building housed the Black Angus restaurant for a very long time. The restaurant had a large sign with letters that lit up at night and it was a VERY common scene to have the "G" go missing.

Massive field?

Looks more like grassy lot that has been cleared & is about to be densified to me.

The wavy facade of the building is a fitting design for a coastal city like Houston.

Kudos to PM Realty Group. They must have spent several thousands of dollars trying to save the live oaks and large crepe myrtle trees. Anyone know where they moved those trees?

It's nice to see a company at least try and save the trees rather than clearing cutting the lot (ahem, Exxon, VA Hospital, and nearly every other large scale project of late), especially after the summer of 2011.

A trailer has arrived, and dirt is finally moving on site.

A tower is seriously lacking from the Galleria area to 2727 Kirby. This will kinda help pan the skyline out towards downtown.

Been pulling for this one ever since I saw the rendering.

Did it just gain a floor to end up at an even 40 stories?
