A local developer is proposing an 18-story mixed-use building that would overlook downtown Milwaukee's riverfront.

Jason Ladner wants to develop the building at 107-115 E. Wells St., now the site of a vacant two-story building that would be demolished.

The new tower would have underground parking, street-level retail space, second-floor offices and 57 upper-level apartments, said Jason Korb, the project's architect.

The street-level space is envisioned as a restaurant with an attached banquet room, said Korb, who operates Korb & Associates Architects. The apartments would mainly be two-bedroom, two-bathroom units, he said.

The plans for the $17 million project were to be submitted Friday to the Department of City Development. The proposal could undergo Plan Commission review on Feb. 15, Korb said.

looks decent and, more importantly, it will continue the canyonization of the river.

Plan Commission approves downtown riverfront apartments

The Plan Commission voted 5-0 to endorse developer Jason Ladner's proposed 18-story The River at Wells, to be developed at 107 E. Wells St. The proposal, opposed by a neighboring apartment building owner, needs Common Council approval.

The $17 million development would feature a street-level restaurant that includes an outdoor deck, a small office on the second floor and 61 apartments on the remaining levels, said project architect Chris Johns, of Korb & Associates.

The River at Wells would have eight parking spaces in the basement of the building, and a rooftop deck for its residents.
