Austin | The Standard at Austin | 191 feet | 17 Floors | Complete

A site plan for another 17-story student apartment building was filed in late November. I posted the link after it was filed, but the ABJ has some details now. It's being called the Standard at Austin, and it's located at 715 1/2 W. 23rd. Here's the site plan again:

Another apartment tower may rise near UT-Austin; More than $130 million in other construction projects planned around town

Landmark Properties Inc., a student housing developer based in Athens, Georgia, has filed a site plan with the city of Austin for its first major project at the University of Texas‚ a 17-story tower at 715 W. 23rd St.

The Standard at Austin could contain 287 units, a parking garage and amenity floor comprising more than 520,000 square feet on a little more than one acre. The project, as described at the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration, is valued at $191 million, which seems particularly pricey and may reflect a typo — something that has happened previously with TDLR records.

So "interesting" they would use a name associated with high end hotels.....

Right? I read the title to this and got excited thinking we were getting a Standard hotel in Austin. Interesting to see how this plays out for them....

Yeah, there's a huge difference between a Standard hotel and a standard student apartment building in West Campus. :)

So, when I look this address up, it's a giant parking garage (the one to the right in the above picture by The ATX). Is it just replacing that?

Site plan was posted on Thursday to the city's AULCC page.

The elevations only go to the main roof - 172 feet 4 inches, but I measured the penthouse to around 188 feet 4 inches.

It's decent looking for West Campus. The estimated start of construction is October 2018.

The widest side will front West 23rd Street and replace the parking garage that's there now. The south facing units are going to have a nice view of the concrete wall on the Co-Op garage.

Speaking of Standard Hotels. I remember reading about this a while back, but at the time I didn't catch that it was a Standard Hotel. Although this same stuff will probably be going on at the unrelated West Campus Standard apartment completx.

Here are some FAA filings for this project. Interestingly, the permit for the building is showing it at 218 feet.

This also lists the work schedule as 8/1/2018 through 8/1/2020. The crane permit lists the schedule as 9/30 of 2018 through 3/31 of 2020.

Also, it looks like this one is going to have two really tall cranes - the taller one will be 432 feet tall.

The site plan was posted to the AULCC page, and there's a slight change in height. The first elevations we saw didn't show this, but there are two sets of stairs that drop down 3 feet 3 inches below the 0 feet baseline number. So, the overall height appears to be 190 feet 7 inches.

The Standard elevations are on pages 25-27 if anyone wants to take a look at them. This may be end up being one of the better looking WC projects. Renderings should be available by now, but I can't find any.

Came across a rendering via LinkedIn

Prepping for demo - all businesses at ground level have shuttered and some fencing is up.

A decent addition to the area. Now if this council could only find the leadership to abolish the excessive parking requirements and adjust upward the restrictive height limits then we could see some narrower towers and more connectivity in the area. Sadly, there is strong opposition to nearly anything that makes sense in this area. For now...

argh... everytime I see this thread I get excited and then have to remind myself it's more crappy student housing.

It may not be a Standard Hotel, but it's better than that hulking parking garage that will be replaced. :)
