This block is EAST of the Co-Cathedral and adjacent to St. Josephland. No way in a million years would I describe it as the "Southwest quadrant" of the CBD. Somebody needs to look at a map.

Taken together with the planned mid-rise (10-story) apartments by the Co-Cathedral, the five-story building underway adjacent to Skyhouse, the ones farther north by the ballpark, it seems like a real possibility that this type of housing (full blocks, 10-stories and under) is going to dominate the eastern edge of downtown. Of course there are true highrises (Houston House, Skyhouse and One Park Place) but at what point do they become the exceptions? Seems like Midtown and EaDo (east of 59) might merge via the eastern edge of downtown.

Midtown is already pretty well occupied with these block buildings; it's becoming very redundant - a squarish 6-story block bounding right up to the curb. That and the three-level rowhouses.

Groundbreaking for an already-announced ethane cracker. Not typically significant, except that this is a $6 billion project start.

MATCH - Midtown Arts & Theatre Center Houston is up to 80% of it's $25 million fundraising goal and expects to break ground on May 7th.

I see no reason why this can't be done.

Once a certain congressman goes away, I see no reason why the Richmond line won't start soon after.

The other day I had a fantasy of a line going down Montrose Boulevard, starting at Hermann Park and running up through The Heights to the 610 loop. How glorious would that be?

The GHP keeps wondering what it will take to make Houston competitive with other cities for young talent. This is part of the solution. Too bad there's opposition.

MATCH looks like a great resource for the arts and theater community.

Today's BisNow has a feature on this corner (Westheimer and Fondren), which they say will be the site of four different apartment complexes. How that will look, I don't know, but the new Vargo's apartments are there.

That's an interesting article with the apartment buildings they mentioned being bought out. The most interesting one being the WestPoint Apartments. Those things are HUGE! The article suggest those apartments will be closing in July and possibly redeveloped mix-use. That mean they may be torn down completely, right?

On a side note, i really hope they keep those palm trees in that area. I really like the scenery approaching Fondren going east on Westheimer!

I love the palms in the Houston area. I like them a lot more than the pines and hardwoods that predominate, although I guess the mix is nice. Probably the best grouping of palms I've seen around there is in the Highland Village area on Westheimer just east of the loop.
