Building & City identity?

In the attached photo from a BMW commercial, I know I've seen the building in the background with the red exterior and white top. I just don't remember where.

Anyone know these buildings & city?

That is Long Beach, California.

Long Beach has also substituted for Miami in "CSI: Miami."

Downtown Los Angeles is also used in a lot of car commercials, at least the ones they air here in the Los Angeles area.

Also substituted for Miami in “Dexter”.

I've noticed a lot of car commercials take place in California or somewhere out west. I guess it makes sense because Hollywood and just the more scenic factor of the West.

As for the stuff that supposed to take place in Miami but takes place in LA, kinda connects to my point before in other threads about the ties between SoCal and SoFlo. Kinda sucks that the latter can't even support its own film industry.

Probably 75% of car commercials are filmed either in downtown LA or in the Angeles national forest

Santa Monica's Ocean Avenue (along Palisades Park) substituted for Miami Beach's Ocean Drive (I'm assuming) in Bad Boys and Get Shorty.

The remaining 25% seem to Vancouver or SF's twin peaks.

You can always tell the difference between Miami & L.A. by the palm trees. L.A. has the really tall skinny ones.

At least some of Dexter's exteriors were shot on location. I don't know what percentage, but it wasn't all LA. "Burn Notice" had a lot of actual Miami exteriors, too. I liked seeing MetroRail and MetroMover tracks in the background.

I've often wondered how many makes use regional commercials. Usually I wonder this when I see Chicago in car commercials I see in Chicago. I like seeing Chicago used, but I wonder if they're part of a national campaign or a regional one.

California and B.C. definitely get a lot. I've noticed Chicago getting in on the action some, too, though. And, of course, New York makes appearances, especially in recent Cadillac commercials. And a few in Detroit - Chrysler had a few in recent history shot in Detroit.
