that would surprise me...unless it was to open a larger one elsewhere....it is lined up around the corner all day long.

I would die. Or perhaps live longer.

The lineups are so long all lunch hour, and they get a busy coffee crowd too. I wouldn't believe it unless it was to move to a larger spot.

Sorry buddy it's definitely closed. My friend is working today downtown. She walked by and she said there's a sign up saying its permanently closed. No mention of a new location. a cashier had told her yesterday it was closing.

Now the fun part will be waiting to see how long it takes a business to lease the space that McDonald's has left in the Square..

Talked to a buddy at a party last night, he is opening an English style pub in the building on Main where the dance studio was.

This "dance studio" may have been well before my time (do you mean discotheque, or like a ballet kind of dance studio) :D Where exactly was it, and what was it called?

I heard about a pub going into 456 Main.

Riverman Oct 30, 2011 8:38 PM

It's either 456 or 460 Main, not sure. I've been in both those building during a Doors Open some time ago, I believe they are joined together in the back.

Went to Swiss Chalet on Friday night, they ran out of ribs around 6pm. Went back on Saturday night, same deal. Didn't want to try again on Sunday. Will wait 2 weeks before trying again.

Me too; Friday night. Good thing I wanted the chicken.
People were waiting in excess of 1.5 hours for it... there was talk of up to 4 locations... I hope they can get at least one more open soon. People are just converging it!

We ordered the chicken and ribs combo at the take out area and got it in the afternoon, but the ribs were a little undercooked. They were rushing things big time.

So D'aquisto, just south of McGillvary Blvd, is closed.
Maybe thats not news, but I was just in the area the other night and noticed that there appears to be a Mexican restaurant opening up in its place. Can anyone confirm this? A Mexican restaurant would be a great addition to that area, particularly if they're going to cater to sports fans with a separate lounge.

I liked D'acquisto but I rarely venture to that part of the city.

It's a WOW hospitality restaurant. All their website currently says is "an exciting new concept coming soon!"

I'm pretty sure it will be mexican... I saw a new sign leaning against the side of the building that consisted of a happy smiling fellow wearing a big sombrero.

But that could be *anything* I suppose. We'll wait and see :)
I'm always up for trying a new Mexican restaurant.

Addition: Nov 30th.
Saw a sign up at the corner of Grant and Pembina advertising "Woody's Bar-B-Que, coming Spring 2012"

Winnipeg Free Press - PRINT EDITION
Jets setting pace
New restaurant chains rushing to feed fans downtown

By: Murray McNeill

Posted: 12/1/2011

"The downtown sports, hospitality and entertainment district (SHED) forming around the MTS Centre is starting to catch fire, with new restaurant chains clamouring to set up shop and eateries already there reporting a surge in business tied to the Winnipeg Jets.

Retail leasing specialist Ken Yee of Cushman & Wakefield said five national restaurant chains have approached the firm about leasing one of the two restaurant spaces in the Longboat Development Corp. complex being built next year on the north side of Portage Avenue across from the MTS Centre.

One of them is the Edmonton-based Hudsons Canadian Tap House chain, which is looking at three or four prospective locations in the SHED, including the Longboat development and nearby Cityplace, said company principal Mike Yasinski.

"Winnipeg is certainly a city we'd love to open in. It has a lot of similarities with our Edmonton market and obviously with the addition of the team (the Jets) and the revitalization of the downtown, it seems like a natural fit for us."

Yasinski said he spent three or four days in October scouting out sites with retail leasing specialist Rennie Zegalski of CB Richard Ellice. And he liked what he saw.

"There just seems to be a lot of great energy and good action downtown."

Industry sources said the Shark Club Bar & Grill chain, which is billed as Western Canada's premier sports bar and grill -- is also close to completing a deal to lease space on the second floor of Cityplace.

The Shark Club, with locations in Grande Prairie, Langley, Lethbridge, Quesnel, Richmond, Saskatoon, Vancouver and Victoria, is part of Northland Properties, which also owns Moxie's, Chop, Denny's and the Sandman Hotels, Inns & Suites."
