Wow great news for Pittsburgh! This and the PNC building! I hope it comes to fruition.

Austinlee May 25, 2012 1:00 PM

The sky terrace and massing of that block makes me hope this gets built.

AaronPGH Jun 4, 2012 1:38 AM

I'm not into this one. My vote goes to rehabbing the current building on that site. This thing looks so awkward.

Evergrey Jun 4, 2012 6:10 PM

I'm sure future renderings will look much better. Build the tower!

AaronPGH Jun 4, 2012 6:15 PM

I hope that's the case, but I'm not holding my breath. Astorino's track record isn't the best.

ShooFlyPie Jun 4, 2012 7:27 PM

I didn't realize this design was by Astorino. I looked into it and it was DLA architects. Which then confused me more. I did work with Astorino through a different company. I am familiar with;

http://www.astorino.com/
located on fort Pitt Boulevard, large AE firm, and has engineers

I am not familiar with;

http://www.dlastorino.com/
who is the firm that developed that hideous tower.

Different firm, same family that broke off and did DLA?

Here is a screenshot from oxford's website. I actually really like how it interacts with the rest of the skyline. Fingers crossed that a tenant is found!

It looks much better in that rendering.

Is 3 PNC the tower on the left in this photo?

Urbana Jun 12, 2012 8:19 PM

:previous:

My mistake. I meant the Tower at PNC.

I also like the rendering in that perspective. I'm still a little torn tho between building a 30-story building or preserving what they have. I do have to say, Pittsburgh can certainly use something vertical in its skyline. At least it's not going to go away to make way for a one-or-two story building. I would raise hell if that were the case! I didn't exactly like that we lost the 5th and Wood building to make way for a 4-story no-big-deal Macys that ultimately closed up after what, 6 years? I must say tho, even that looks nice as Piatt Place...

Oxford Development seeks an anchor for proposed Downtown skyscraper

August 16, 2012 00:16:29

By Mark Belko / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Oxford Development Co. has approached four to five companies about anchoring a proposed $238 million, 33-story skyscraper Downtown and is confident that it can get one to sign on.

"Our project, we feel, is definitely still in play," said Shawn Fox, director of business development for Oxford. .....

Site's Downtown redevelopment marketed amid high-rise plans

October 6, 2012 12:14 am

By Mark Belko / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Oxford Development Co. has begun marketing a $40 million redevelopment of a seven-story building at 441 Smithfield St., Downtown, but that doesn't mean the firm has given up on plans for a $238 million, 33-story skyscraper at the site, a spokesman said. .........

^Well, according to the news article we will find out by the end of this year (in the next 90 days!) if the Burgh will be getting a SECOND huge tower to rise with the Tower at PNC Plaza; I feel like this development is a win-win. A renovation of the existing building would be great to but I would love to see this "sleeper block" suddenly anchored by two 30+ story glass curtain high rises.

Austinlee Oct 8, 2012 7:26 AM

Here's the $40 million rehab rendering

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...llionrehab.png

Which they said would be renovated following closely to their very successful conversion of the Penn Avenue Place (formerly a Hornes department store):

Austinlee Oct 8, 2012 7:28 AM

And here's a larger resize of the potential SUPER block of two new 500-600 towers rising at the same time, both slated to be 33 floors for a total of $638 million in development of that block between Smithfield and Wood! :omg:

Gilamonster Oct 9, 2012 9:48 PM

I'd be rather surprised if Oxford development can pull off an anchor tenant for this project and expect them to announce the renovation option. Still, there is hope and a few months to go in their self imposed deadline. If the skyscraper option gets nixed, it would be a win for the preservationists who are upset at the possible elimination of the existing building on site.

bmust71 Oct 9, 2012 9:51 PM

the rendering of the skyscraper on Oxford's website is TONS better than the original ones
